shouting

gidday to everyone at swaylocks. the site is absolutely unreal, one of the greatest tools any craftsman could wish to own. i have been a craftsman in the surf industry a long time,( and i’m still only 28) i am, however, a total computer/email novice… i just read in your forum rules re; SHOUTING (writing in caps eh?) and here i have a username in loud uppercase… sorry to anyone who’s thinking ‘who’s this dork?’ -unintentional mistake.

anyway, look forward to chatting and exchanging skills with you all soon. and in the future i will conduct myself a bit more quietly.

That’s cool, because you’re from the land of the great wide SHOUT … er… I mean, “white cloud” !

WELCOME , mate !!

[from someone a few thousand miles west of you.]

I seem to remember ‘Maz’ on the surfer design forum was also from piha…and I think ‘francis giraffe’ too, from memory !

how’s the surf there in spring ?

      ben

HEIST! WELCOME! PLEASE TRANSLATE YOUR TAGLINE!

                                   thanks, gil

HEIST,

Indeed it appears you’ve broken the cardinal no shouting rule*. As punishment you must produce a book report on Ambrose’s next three posts, explaining in lay terms the historical and philosophical context of his prose.

Welcome to Swaylock’s,

mp

* hey, in case you were actually worried – don’t be. Any username, caps or not, is generally acceptable.

yo gil.

translation from Maori means 'west coast scoundrel"-kinda dumb, but any fellow kiwi’s might spot the lingo pretty quickly

hi ben, whats happening?

my little town is a pretty small place, 1/2 hour drive thru solid bush to the nearest gas station, only 700 or so residents- the only maz i know is a good friend of mine from gisbourne (5 hours SE) he actually surfed on the WCT a couple o years ago, dunno if he posted on swaylocks-maybe, but he did spend alot of time at our pad over summer when all the comps come to town.

spring is being kind to us here ( we have swell every day of the year anyway, and normally too big!) but the banks are in good form. quite a bit of rain so our 2 rivermouth peaks are pretty polished. had 3 nights in a row now of solid barrels with most 4 other guys- there is always a wave you can have to yourself here bro. life is good, what are your waves like chipfish61?

hey an i just unknowingly shouted twice this morning in exhuberance mayest my finest articulation of the traditional appologietic posture sufice as I dont read directions well either {neither]…let the phantasmagoricia continue and reconect the mana transpacificly to overflow the potentials with unheralded glee mirth and of course ancient and unbridled aloha…ambrose …in waipouli

… WOW, man …

HEIST, here’s a shot from a coupla weeks back. Yesterday was a few feet bigger. The only killer was 2’ slabs of backwash.

In a month, it goes flat. And I mean F-L-A-T ! Everyone sits out there on 10’ mals comparing their beer guts. At least , where I live. [summer is when I hope to make some boards, and fins]

    ben

ps- no, it wasn’t Maz Quinn over at ‘surfer’…I asked him.

I’ll never forget watching Maz freesurf my local following a wct / aaa comp on ***** a few years back. Everyone was amazed at his speed and ‘verticality’. Shamed some of the locals that day, for sure !

thanks for sharing those shots brother-pretty nice lookin day- that u in the tube? im gonna enjoy using this site, seems like a good helpful vibe.

i’ve just come in from another hollow 4 ft sesh- more NE winds tomorrow, amped, hard to fit in any shaping at this rate, i got 2 newies being glassed right now, so that’ll keep me fresh for another couple o months!

where is that beach of yours, is it nice and quiet there?-ha.

ps. that maz sure does surf good

pps. im gonna try sort out how to sent photos etc. like you just did. having a visual aid has got to help in some of the technical issues on this site eh?

nah mate, I took the shot.

I just have my photos in my documents / my pictures, then just under here where I’m writing, there’s a thing which says

[browse], select the photo, then [open with microsoft photo editor]…reduce the photo so it becomes less than 90kb,

then hit [upload attachment] and wait. It will come up down the bottom the name and size if your photo.

Please send some…I’d love to see shots of your boards, your local beach, fins, skateparks… all good kiwi stuff… Maz can fly…who said kiwis can’t fly eh ??

What boards are you making ? colours ?

Wha’s in your quiver ?

 okay, catchya HEIST

    ben

ps- school holidays at the moment, so the beach is not quiet. But, once they’re over…living five minutes walk from the beach generally means I can sometimes pick a gap in the crowd

pps- while it’s 9.30pm friday night in cali now, it’s nearly one o’clock [pm] saturday afternoon, here in Perth. What would the time be in “enzed” NOW ? Are you six hours ahead of perth [ie 3 hours ahead of Sydney ?]

I am getting hard of hearing so SHOUTING is cool with me.I am glad to see so many folks from Australia posting on Swaylocks.Seems like this site is becoming more “international” every day.Cheers RB

SORRY? WHAT’S THAT YOU SAY ? YOU’LL HAVE TO SPEAK UP I CAN’T HEAR YOU MATE !! [kidding, really]

Cleany, did you see ‘the life of Brian’, mate ? [… the two guys in the dungeon 'he’s m…mm…m… he’s m…m…m.ma…"

[if not, ‘do yourself a favour’, as our Molly madman would say, and get it out on vid… or hopefully, DVD , maybe it has some extra stuff ??]

      the Chipmonster

" only an aussie knows the feeding…"

Chippie I though you were Japanese???

IT ALSO MEANS ROBBERY BURGLARY JEWEL CACHE …

HEY THIS THREAD’S REALLY GOOD … EVERYONE HEARING ME ALRIGHT ??

ah , that’s better ! The raspberry cordial’s worn off now… another top up perhaps, Ambrose ? [I thought you may be a partaker / imbiber , until I saw photos of your boards… too much concentration and craftsmanship for those to have been created with any sort of …er… additives in the mix , methinks !] Could be it is just your ‘web persona’, and in reality thousands of miles away from our hemisphere, there lurks the real off screen Ambrose, quiet, creative, thoughtful… and teetering on the razor fine edge between genius and… ?

I hope to meet you one day, along with any other "Swaylockians" who may ever be passing through this way..

          ben

after centuries of consumption of extra curicular substances and a childhood of observing elders affected by alchahol its easy to slip into mind meandering ,or perhaps ruminating through the waving fields of the phantastique. The meeting of stanley with livingston on the banks of the Zambezi was a historical event only because Stanley was not a stock broker but instead an adventurer and a journalist.leading the meeting to become a literary cliche’… DR. LIVINGSTON I PRESUME… and upon the meeting other than on the banks of the river Swaylaholia should there be a code like the masons? ‘on the square’ as to keep the un initiated in the dark like my wife greeted a swaylock’s visitor when I was not home “ARE YOU ROY” which gave his wife time and reason to pipe up and say "“You know of roy?”…ambrose…genius and madness are in the eye of the analyst…y tu passing thru my town we go surf !!!

" you know of Roy ? "

hahahahahaha

[but also, uh oh uh oh uh oh uh …oh crap , ‘busted’ ?! ]

… probably where REAL names are NOT such a bad idea, after all !

Or, as is the ausway, an abbreviation that at the very least, bears some resemblance to the name , or appearance … like you would be tooheys, ‘Swan’, ‘emu’, or fosters here, a guy or chick with red hair would be called ‘bluey’… that kind of sensible down under logic, you know ! [ Or maybe we could just call you ‘a rooster’ , come to think of it!]

            chippy

amberose…amberish…amber esque… ambered ?!

YOUR beer there must be VERY light, for you to still be able to shape [and spray? and glass ?] that well. Unless you’ve been ‘on the job’ so long , it’s become second nature to you ?!!

yo chipfish. i got a mate with a digi camera, so give me a while to sus it and i’ll have some shots for you.( thank you for those easy instructions)

my background includes being the sole sprayer at arguably the largest board manufacturer in nz for alot of years, i sprayed for primal, Q-stix, supersession, lobster, savaii etc all labels coming out of our factory.( a few thousand sprays in total)

a few real clever dudes there taught me a hell of alot about everything surf- and in the process i learnt glassing, sanding, fin foiling, wood veneer vacuum, epoxy… the whole bit. so i guess i just picked up the shaping too.

now im out of the factory ( my health was suffering in the spray booth) and help to run a construction business with my old man. i now shape alot for myself, and a few of the young crew round here.

mostly shortboards for our conditions, 6’2-4’ . i also love experimenting with crazy super-fish boards like 5’8 long (real head turners- i’ll send you some shots of these), also the odd indo gun board for pals.

my quivers running kinda large at the mo, 10 boards 5’9" to 6’10". but just got back from a run in g-land so time to re-tune some shapes for nz summer!!

“HEIST” is my board label ( in the beginning taking money off crew for my own shapes, felt to me, like robbery!!!

oh yeah… i think we are 3 hours ahead of syds, but we just began daylight savings- so whats that? like 6 (or 7 now?) hours ahead of perth

nice to chat iternational- style ben

later-brad

thanks Brad!

Always good to talk to kiwis, and other ozzies, as well as the “world wide websters” … the internet is okay, I reckon […I used to think only weirdos hung out there. Like me.]

I’d love to learn foiling…I rang George Greenough once, and my brain couldn’t keep up with him. He was / seems very helpful, friendly, and informative…I’d LOVE to visit him and see all his stuff ! […join the long queue, I guess ?!]

In my old “Surfing World” mag collection , I have some NZ boardmakers ads, from memory…maybe in an email to you I can send them in a size big enough for you to read ? [Maybe if you’re in your late 40’s, early 50’s, you may be in some of the ads …from the 1970’s…have you been in the industry that long ??]

Iain Buchanan was in the 'Hot Buttered ’ ad I posted in the ‘artwork’ thread, but a bit too small to really see, unfortunately.

Yes, you would now be seven hours ahead of Perth, then [we don’t have daylight saving, unfortunately!] So it would now be 1.15am monday morning in nz…I’m guessing you’re asleep , then !

[6.15pm sunday evening here in perth…4.15am sunday morning in cali… 6.15am in florida…god knows what in hawaii ?! It gets WEIRD this time stuff, doesn’t it !!!]

 okay, catchya mate !

     ben [aka "chip" / " chipfish61" / chippy ]

the nick name has plagued all my life aquaintences to total distraction when I first started shaping a friend tried one day tohang the shortened spanish chick for chico my instant homophobic response was you cean chicken - foot, a notorius african protection symbol, I have since been running with a chicken foot on all my shapes…twenty years after the fact I came upon this scratching amongst a divining tool of the norse culture that resembled my rendition of the chicken footprint…this rune 's significance is that of protection significance … coincidence or plan beyond our understanding I choose the latter… now to bluey, turn over the forearm of any redheaded compatriot and observe the blue cast to the veining so close to the skin…blue blood perhaps? I choose to believe this signifies another species of human introduced by our happy intergalactic ranchers that are raising the stellar hybids this planet will forever be famous for throughout the universe…In waipouli the tap water is the finest wine surpassing all extra curricular liquids including the stiffling meads of our ancestors bless their sober souls amd may their time in the bosom of the great spirit help us endure to surf just one more wave…ambrose…chickasaurus rex, chicken quadrupile, chicken scratch.chickasaw [an indian tribe of note] ,chickaskraz…very ;ight ? we will all go to the light…aloha chipus pescada

So, that having been said, please tell me - in REAL life , you DO speak easy to understand english at least occassionally , though … don’t you ??
