That one was done on a polyester fabric that has a coated side made to take ink. It works great for photographic images where the tiniest detail (like the wood grain) is important. Since it’s a fabric it is usually inlayed as a panel. There’s all kinds of substrates available from rice papers to fabrics that can be used. Each having its own advantages and disadvantages. I’ve seen some sublimated fabrics that have lycra in the weave that will wrap over the rails beautifully.
When I get a custom order, I have to decide what approach is best suited to execute the art. A lot of the time it’s a combination of airbrush and digital.
Nice work yall,
Brasco,
I use to airbrush on foam but now prefer working on the finished board and clear coating the graphic. I use spray paint or ink for larger areas and sometimes use rubbing alcohol to thin out or “distress”, smear for a different effect.
I am planning on laminating a full board graphic if I get time to design one. Have any of you tried this before or have any input (like the “Monica” board above).?
Marks made using a pyrography tool. About 16 hours in all. Not sure how permanent the scorching is, especially considering the design is under foot placement. Oh well, have to wait and see.
Ordered a second US Blank from Seabase UK, cut out an outline and painted with acrylic directly onto the foam. It will never be glassed as I figure I can sand it off and then use the blank again for a different design,
