Show us your resin tints and patterns!

By the way these are not edited so all glassing is real time!

Hi guys, in total awe of the killer designs

I could probably work this out by going over the last 74 pages but im sure ill get the skinny quicker asking

I have a 6’9" EPS almost ready to go

and im itching to do an acid swirl on the bottom, nothing too fancy just blue and white (maybe a little black to get a really nice marbled effect, with luck!) clear top, cutlaps, yada yada …  im using gem / or kleerlam epoxy. Now i do find with kleerlam its better to pour onto the blank then roll the cloth onto it rather than pour the resin onto the cloth, however seeing as you have to use bucketloads of resin compared to a normal lam the wet out might not be an issue. not sure with gem which is probably what ill be getting to complete the project never used it.

heres the sort of effects im aiming at

I realise these may be poly, but i have definitely seen some good ones done with epoxy on here.

soooo

  1. Whats best to go with? solid colours or tints? (i guess white is going to be solid rather than a tint in any event)

  2. any reccomendations of manufacturers?

  3. to get an effect something like the above how much of each color would you need ?

4  would this be possible to do by pouring the resin on the blank then rolling the cloth on?

4.5 seeing as im going to seal the blank with resin and micro has anyone tried doing a swirl with the seal?

thanks in advance

Stat

Haven’t been on in a while heres a recent one

Sexy, spill the beans Paul, what’s your colour ratios?

That ones easy lots of purple lots of white :o)

looks like theres black in there too? that epoxy or PU?

mines getting the treatment soon and if it turned out as good as that id be stoked. i was gonna go a bucket of white with a dollop of blue dropped in and a bucket of blue with a dollop of white. means i only have to do two mixes. given its epoxy ill try going for big patches of color like the blue longboard above rather than going for a pure marbled effect as marbling and epoxy means mud as far as i can gather from here.

Just thinking… was gonna do the bottom pigmented blue white acid with cutlaps and the deck a lime green tint, but wont the deck laps look odd against the color on the bottom?, suppose i could wet the deck  laps with clear which would probably give me a funky effect as the tint on the deck transitions to the clear laps? or should I save the green for another time and do the deck clear… any suggestions?

well spent half an hour going through all the notes id made off this thread and a few you tube vids and then headed down to the cave and ended up with this, pretty stoked right now

thanks once again to the mighty Paul Cannon for his input…

also a quick shout out to the guys at PSI, the resin worked really well for this, good working time, not too thick and very easy wet out.,

I’m just getting back into board building after a couple years off.  Here are my first two bottom lams since starting up again.  Both are wakesurfers.

The first one is an EPS/Epoxy.  I poured on the red first, then the white, leaving the area in the middle dry.  Then I Took the remaining resin from the two colors and did a typical swirl.  This was my hardest lamination I’ve ever done.  Keeping the soild colors their respective color was a royal pain in the ass.  I used three squeegees just in case (one for each section), and it was still tough.  PM me if you want more info.

The second board is board for my daughter.  I already posted about it here, but thought I would add it to this thread.  It’s a PU/Epoxy resin swirl.  Its the best looking epoxy swirl I’ve done (I think).

Muddy in the nose due to increases rocker and running prior to pulling the resin off the side.  You never know what you’re gonna get until you start moving resin around.
