Jim phillips shaped this one.
lookin sweet there vader!
I think your beginning to catch on…LOL! (pun)
how many hands did it take to pull that one off?
Obiwan’s gonna give you shit for smeering the red and the blue into the clear.
Looks (is) pro dude!
little embaraced to put these up, but I’m still learning and I’m happy enough with how my work is progressing, so think of each board as a work in progress. This is my first time using a red tint. I poured the red/black swirl down the stringger, did one pass over that then poured the rest of the red. Next time I think I’ll go for the full red/black swirl. BTW its epoxy.
still need to sand, fin, pinline, glos and polish so I’ll be busy for a while.
woody
that looks just fine to me
this thread is all about sharing
it looks cool with the mid swirl and nice even red tint
you did good
thanks,
Obiwon and i did it together.
we did a second one for nectar that just got glossed, using volan
Thankyou very much for your kind words Ken,
I mainly do repairs and don’t get much spare time to work on whole boards maybe 1 or 2 a year - start to finish in my small shed come workshop.
I’ve made the decision to cut back on the repairs and spend more time on personal projects. I’m really stoked with the board so far, but I have quite high aspirations -
Oneday hope to be making boards to the same calibar as vadar, austin and uncle D. I really respect the level of craftsmanship they can achieve, but they set the bar quite high, not trying to compete with them or anything just want my boards to get better now I’ve seen whats possible.
This is shape #4 and glass job #6. I’m really stoked with the shape its just what I had in my mind, I used a fred tool on this one and it really helped.
It’s glassed with 4 + fin patch on the bottom and 4 + 6 on the top, I was going to go 4+4 but I screwed up the cut on the fin patch on the 1st attempt and ran out of cloth so used 6.
The deck has come out really even and can get away without need a pinline if needs be, but the hull has a few squeegy streaks, and a couple of bleeds/sand throughs on the lap line. With the red I can really see that extra glass makes a big difference in getting an even tint, where the fin patch is the colour is much more uniform/strong as on the deck with the 2 layers of cloth, but I was also trying to keep the board quite light aswell.
Do you think it would look strange with the pinline on the hull instead of the deck? I seem to remember that they used to be done that way, any thoughts?
In the mix of thinks I think it actually adds to the boards character though, as the swirl distracts from the streaks, and there is a dot of black I dripped near the rail by accident that I’m actually quite fond of.
woody
every board is unique
so piniline the bottom if you wish
sand throughs are when you actualy go through the weave and hit foam
hitting weave aint as bad as long as you gloss coat
beautiful!!! so nice it tempted me and is coming in my shipment of jims board to ireland!!!
Thanks ken - haven’t satnded it yet fingers crossed, I’d class them as sand throughs, they were on the first lap as I was danding the egde down, didn’t hit the foam but took enough glass out that they show with the tint, I’m sure I’ll beable to live with em, and just try not to do it again next time.
board made for my girlfriend. its a very girly pink i tried to make star templates and paint them on first before i poured resin. came out okay. it never turns out how you expect . always a surprise
First go:
Thanks to Darth

I see youve been working overtime! Lord Vader
Holly Poopcycles, Those are crazy Vader. I want to do more color work up here!
Dark Side For Life!
The pink topped board even has a “V for Vader” notch cut into the tail patch ;>)
That last board is absolutely the bees knees, Nai – I’m just shaking my head at your skillz
Those colors are unbelievably vibrant. Bravo vader!
nice fish!
question for the dark lord:
On the pink/dark gray board, the white stripe is very opaque at the rails but the stringer shows through like it’s clear. I’m stumped.
