!!!!!!!!SHOW US YOUR SKATEBOARDS!!!!!!!!

i know that street well…but never bombed it…kinda rough in texture these days.

herb

more old school fun !!!

Should call this thread the Herb thread.

Imagine it’s 1956/57, and you want a Skateboard.      What to do, what to do?     Start with clamp on metal wheel roller skates,  and a 24 inch pine board.   Put the two together and you have a Skateboard!     Then imagine going so fast, down a steep hill, that the steel wheels start to disintegrate, and pelt you with shrapnel !      Ahhhh, the follies of youth.     You needn’t ask how I know about things like this.

Bill

why not !!!..or anyone that wants to post a skateboard story thread…my friend Bud Gaugh would agree !!!

herb

i still have an old but functional steeliewheeled board…i’ll bring it along…thing’s a death trap…lol.

herb

looks like a fun place to ride…public stuff like that usually gets altered to prevent it  from being abused by us bad/terrible skateboarders…i’ll tell you what though…new mex has some great ditches !

herb

And, what about today? Be nice to see people still doing it. Why not get fit and get back into it. Like most of sways has this just become, “back in my day”, it’s still your day bro.

i’m always up for a ride…do you know where there’s a good backyard pool ?..i do…just rode one this morning !!!

A couple of months ago a friend called and told me they’d just repaved his street. He’s a little younger than me (62) and he rides a longskate. So, we met up and bombed the hill by his house.

This is me.

Sammy, you just brought a big smile to my face !

lots of hills/streets to bomb around here…it’s Anaheim hills/Yorba Linda,ca…gotta watch out for the man though.

I live in a very rural area. In the off season (Fall, Winter, Spring) there’s not much traffic. We can get away with this stuff and nobody minds. Some folks slowed down and smiled when they saw it was us.

Small town. Everybody knows each other, pretty much. Still, this was two guys over 60 bombing a hill with virgin blacktop. I’m riding that same Flite that I posted, above. Still use it.

Note to self: I need to get new bearings.

Sorry to go “back in the days”, but…

  1. I was living in Paris and for a while I worked for the french Freeformer importer. As such, I was in charge of Ty Page and Mark Bowden when they came to France for a series of demos. During almost one month, I drove them around to the demos sites. The following photos were taken then. I’m the one with a mustache.

Don’t apologize. Cool pics. No action shots?

Also, is there really a lot of blank space in your post, and just three pics? Something’s odd, there.

this is a past ,present or future thread balsa,

mark,ty,and brian are the best !

they still remain good friends to this day…(check the group shot  you can see them)

when the signal hill movie is avaliable to watch… i hope you get a chance…really worth the viewing…the guys that produced it… did it as a labor of love…and with not much money involved ,mike horlick and jon carnoy did a fantastic job putting it together.

thanks for the photos,i enjoyed them greatly!

herb

tooo bad you’re not in my area,i got lots of extras…i just hate shipping stuff anymore…after shipping so many sets superchargers over the years, it took the fun out of sending things…if push came to shove…let me know.

herb

sorry balsa,

for some reason they’re not in thes group pics…i know they were at the premier opening of the movie…in lew of that here are some pics i think you’ll like…and visit the signal hill speed run fb page…lots of great stuff there.

No worries, herb. I appreciate the offer. I can afford them, it’s just they keep slipping my mind. I don’t skate that often anymore. Then I do a little skating and remember I need bearings. Ya know…

These pics were scanned from very old paper photographs and since I’m not too good at it, the scanner didn’t pick only the size of the photos but the full page format. Sorry for the inconvenience. Herb, say hello from me next time you see Ty and Mark, will you? Mark actually didn’t stay that long because he sprained his ankle during one of the demos (on the roof of the Printemps store) and had to be sent back home but he was a real nice guy. Thanks for the pics, too. We used to do this “jump over the car” thing at the end of each demo (most took place on supermarkets’ parking lots and we would ask if someone would lend us a low car such as the Triumph on the pic. Then Ty and Mark would jump over it and land back on the long boards, first alone, then together.

I also met David Ferry who was riding in the Makaha team at the time. If you know him, say hello, too.

1978, 8’ wide x 10’ high halfpipe. Good times! Back then, it still hurt to fall, just the risk of shattering was much less!
