!!!!!!!!SHOW US YOUR SKATEBOARDS!!!!!!!!

i’ll do that…once and awhile the cast gets together for a showing of the movie.the last showing was in santa cruz…all the boyz in the hood attended, like peter mel, flea ,etc…there’s a segway about skateboarding’s relationship to surfing ,and signal hill to big wave riding that drew them in…most or all the mavs riders have great respect for the signal hill riders/racers.

…I have not been on a skateboard for at least 15 years…Big O Skate Park.Orange, California. Freestyle bowl…somewhere around 1980…They say I surf like I skate…I don’t know…

For me it’s all about the flow…not tricks…flow finds speed and  then big ass cutback… Holden and Ray are still good friends 20+ years later…

Cozy Thread.  Shall we?

Hair farmer days. Around 1974. That’s one of my Hobie fiberglass decks. #2, actually

Before there was Sector 9 there was the Madrid Longboard.  I put this board together in 1987.  Gullwing Trucks and Peralta Bones Three wheels.  Still ride it from time to time.

Somewhere in my parents garage is one of these.  I haven’t seen it in 20 years but I know its in there somewhere.  My parents garage would make a good episode of American Pickers.  This board is from about 1982 or 1983.

Mako224, If you ever want to sell the Sims let me know, Id be interested. Ive got a few 80s boards too.

Who is the guy from NC (I think) who had a huge skate museum and Duke K collection? Can’t remember his name.

While I’m at it, here’s some old mags I have. Some of you will recognize them.

From the Surf to Skate exhibit SHACC put on a couple years back

There’s a cool book from that show as well

Back in the 70’s a buddy worked at Jack Murphy Stadium and a few times got us in there when there was no event happening.

Those nice smooth concrete corkscrew ramps were perfect for high speed downhill runs…

thanks ray, i enjoyed that very much !

Thanks Herb, but it wasn’t by choice, you may have noticed my toes are gripping the rail on the nose!

Good times!

Many thanks to all those who came before. I spent a few years in New York. I don’t know how to embed a video, but my mustache made an appearance in this:

Gets bigger every year.

cheers

Also, once I made this for my nephew. Fortunately for him, it doesn’t have wooden (or clay) wheels and loose bearings.

my first 2 or 3 boards were made in woodshop out of oak planks - then I got the idea to take some birch plywood and laminate it together using a crude jig to create some kicktail.  Thiose ended up snapping pretty quick, but I didn’t give up I built a better jig at home, used some boat epoxy my dad had, and laminated two pieces of 1/4 inch marine ply.   I used my dad’s 3/4 ton Chevy as the press!  It worked  great, I shaped a 10 X 30 pool board that lasted almost a year, I was 12 I think.  Here’s me a year or two later skating the local spot - anyone from Santa Cruz recognize it?

I love this thread! - those picks of you jamming along, Sammy, reminds me so much of how my buddies and I used to skate - all we were thinking about was Bertleman & Buttons!

Just found a pic of one of my first boards from about 1964…
