Something new for me…made plenty of fins, but never a handplane. Basswood, redwood, walnut, and mahogany. Mostly leftovers from other projects or offcuts that wouldn’t work for boards. Might have to make one for myself one of these days!
Beautiful design and wood selection .!!!

Paul - Tell me you just did the annual workshop tidy-up please…I’m ashamed.

How did you get the channels into the wood?
Just veneer with vac onto the divinycell-core?
Or are the channels made of massive wood?
Work in progress. Paulownia and visorwood. Pretty stoked on this one, too bad it’s not mine to keep…

Visorwood® eco-friendly alternative to hardwoods
With much focus on the global
environmental crisis and the need for more sustainable products and
materials, producers are seeking alternatives to using tropical
hardwoods and environmentally unfriendly and hazardous preservative
treated woods.
These changes in the market have created new opportunities and VisorWood
is just one material which has taken full advantage of this. VisorWood
is a modified wood, using treatable wood with natural chemicals to
develop a more environmentally friendly and sustainable product. This
modified wood is more expensive than regular or impregnated wood
products but, the very low maintenance and aftercare requirements result
in competitive life cycle costs. This modified wood benefits from
enhanced properties such as increased lifetime, improved mechanical
properties and more consistent quality. The wood has no leakage or
emissions in use and has no restrictions on disposal (may used as
firewood etc.). The wood also requires no other treatments than usual
cleaning for the first 30 years.
The production of VisorWood started in September 2003 since which time
it has been used for a number of houses in Norway as well as commercial
buildings. The Ecolabel Foundation has also awarded VisorWood the
official Nordic environmental label within the durable wood category.
Haavard, Is this the wood your talking about ? Where did you get it ? Is it heavy? How is the strength ?
Lovely bookmatched Paulownia Havaard.
I have a new batch from Geoff Moase, who posts here as “Dovetail”. I did’nt request bookmatched planks, so I lucked out with this pair …Visorwood sounds interesting too.
Speednedle This is very cool what you have done here. Nice work. Very nice.
Quanta,
More pics, please.
