Side Fin placement for 2+1

Greetings ole wise ones…Just finished hot coating 6 new boards for spring break…going 2+1 on my two longboards (9.0 and 8.0) this season…what is the standard side fin placement for the 2 noseriders I mentioned…

I forgot…haven’t done a 2+1 in over a decade…my guess …about 15" (trailing edge) for 9.0 and about 14.5" for 8.0…please advise…

For the technical junkies…both boards are 22" wide and 2.75" thick…8.0 has a fairly progressive bottom…mild single concave under the chest going to a double barrel under the knees coming out with a spiral vee  with 60/40 rails…

9.0 is fairly retro…slight belly and roll throughout bottom… vee running from chest through tail …flattened out and flipped in last 3"…

My plan is to use mediumish  center fins (6.5" - 7") for both boards…Let me know what you feel is optimum FCS side fin placement with specs provided…Thank you, keep up all of your stoke and enthusiasm…

Hi flcct -

Most 2+1 longboards and hybrids have the center box at about 5"-6" from tail.  If you can, try installing farther back if tail thickness allows.  This increases the possibility of something closer to a thruster layout if that works for you.

2+1 is a good way to go in my opinion.  It’s one of the most versatile fin layouts in actual use.
