Side fins too close to stringer (no out far enough)

Building my first board with a MAJOR mistake. My side fins are not out far enough. What will this do to the performance of the board.

  1. Would I be better just going with the center fin?
  2. Should I add another set of side fins?
  3. Should I go with the side fins only?
  4. Can I pretend I did this on purpose to have the option of a Single or Double fin set-up?

Have you even ridden it yet, I see posts here where folks are freaking about something on their board, but have never gotten it wet yet. I find fins too close to the rail are more of a problem than farther in

What makes you think you have a problem? Post photos, or provide some measurements. Not enough info right now.

Have not had the chance to get it wet yet, maybe spring before I know the answer.

As the two wise sage’s answered above, there is no right or wrong in surfboard building. Almost everything works, and what doesn’t for one is the cat’s meow for another.

I ride Bic surfboards sometimes.

I like my custom tri 6’8" x 20 with dead straight side fins!

My 8’ Plumeria Brewer works in the same size waves as my 6’8"!

I can ride a 5’6" fish in the same size waves.

Surfboard preferences and design is like women’s hemlines, always changing!

Try it, if it spins out, add trailer. If it holds, your good as gold!
