signing eps

What kind of writing utencil should I use to sign my name and date on the eps foam. My penciled fin marks smudged on my eps epoxy board. So, what should I do in order to prevent this failure?

if im signing or puting dimensions on an eps blank I write it on a piece of rice or logo paper then lam it to the board

as far as marking for fins, I do fins after sand coat so I can write on the board acuratly

If the fin sets require a lam over them I just lam oval shaped pieces of glass over them and re sand coat the area’s

this procedure also adds to concave between the fins especialy a thruster set up.

I now use the Probox fin set’s they are a breeze to install

Tony,

I've used India ink and a fountain pen on the sanded hot coat and glossed over the writing after the ink dried.

I usually use a very soft pencil and sign after I’ve spackled the board. Just use light pressure and go over it a couple times to get it dark. I’ve never had a problem with it smudging.

soft pencil…sharp point…light touch…right on the stringer…

I use Rachel’s technique. Charcoal pencils are nice and dark, but will smudge if you’re not careful. Maybe you could do a quick seal with clear acrylic or Future over the charcoal before you laminate it. Mike

Yes to the seal it first. Some blanks we don’t seal I just spackle right where I need to sign. If it’s a wood stringer I sign the stringer. PVC sometimes smears when you laminate.
