any
any tips on fin placement on a mini simmons shape.
Hey standishowl, I posted a similar question a while back. I searched through a heap of posts about what others had done and it seems anywhere from about 2 to 5 inches off tail is common, 1.5 off rail seems to be pretty common, toe from 0 to 1/4 inch and cant varied too.
I just finished my board. 4'11" x 23 x 2 3/4. The keels aren't the standard simmons half moon type but I put them (10 x 5 1/4) 4 inches off the tail (though my fins are raked back a bit, so the closest bit to the tail is actually 3 inches from it, don't know the correct way to measure it). 1 1/2 off the rail, 1/4 inch of toe in (going with the standard 4 1/2 inch reference fin base, so really more like 1/2 inch toe in for a 10 inch long fin), and 4 degrees cant.
Stoked with the way it goes so far, loose and turns easily but not squirrelly and uncontrollable. Not sure whether it's owed to the fins or what though.
Hopefully others will chime in, I'm pretty clueless about it and just went with a combination of what I saw working for others and what looked right on my board.
