Simplicity

Wow! Posted at surfer’s bb. Looks genuine. Why are we so concerned with foils, rocker, and fins?

Incredible form; hanging heels!!!

Damn that’s a cool shot. Don’t over analyze it. Just appreciate the moment in time.

Reminds me of the photo Dale posted last year…The dude was on a nearly SQUARE piece of plywood, slotted perfectly in the hook, Lopez slouch…wearing a freaking HAT! Dale, can you find that photo again…

I believe this photo was published in the, “Book of Waves” a few years back. A copy was on my wall for a number of years to keep things in perspective. What I always wondered was how this guy would do with a so called designed board. Thank you for posting the photo-one of my favorites. Patrick

Dude, that almost looks superimposed. Maybe its just my disbeleif at what hes doing, but is that for real or what?

Awesome pictures. Shows the true spirit of surfing. You don’t have to ride a $1200 board to feel the stoke. I would suggest removing the nails first though!

Apologies to Kampion if it is published in the Book of Waves. I found it on the net.

wood is good …

how do you reckon they caught the waves …maybe they were doing the first tow ins???

Jumping off jetties is popluar. Looks like he could muscle swim it into a wave. People adapt.

Check the events calender- talk about simple and cheap- there is a show of fastfood trays, used for body surfing, at Paradise Surf Shop in Santa Cruz. Used like a “handgun” these trays are personalized by local teenage surfers. Up for the month of April. A couple of the artists were at our house last night and loved the shots of the Barbados surfers and their plywood boards.

While ancient surfers didn`t have rectangular sheets of plywood, they did have a culture intimately connected to the sea and a heritage of sophisticated, finless surfcraft design. Water time, athleticism and a fine sense of balance were germane to their success.

The previous standing paipo riding images could just as easily have been witnessed centuries ago. Flat, thin, finless and short can successfully be ridden prone, kneeling and standing… no tow-in needed.

Log on was an early surfing slang cliche…ambrose…flat and thin were of later significance they were easier to ride and guys from the interior valleys made them popular… Fred Wendisch’s pictures of the barbados kids on logs whew babies …should be nominated

it was originally in an 80’s surfer mag. i had it cut out and hanging on my wall. Austin S.

Feel the STOKE…

It does make me feel like I am over analizing and designing my first board.

Maybe I should just start building

If you want to surf, all you need are waves

Fred’s movie was released in 1969 it was called “The Natural Art” the pictures were in motion… I believe…they were the same scenes as in the 80’s magazine…those were stoked surfers…on a budget…ambrose…I was 20
