Single Balsa Deck

I have been looking at Swaylocks for a long time… i cant find anything in the posts however that have said anything about this… i am making my first board, and i have already shaped an EPS board, but i didnt quite like how it looked… it was a retro fish… but i decided to reshape it to get it good since foam is cheep and the epoxy i bought is expensive as hell. i want a strong board and was wondering if it is possible to just put a balsa deck on a board without the balsa rails… just to increase its strength. is that possible. i couldnt find any posts about strictly putting a deck… i am using EPS and RR epoxy… any help would be great. Thanks.

Sure, you can do it. One thing to look out for, though, is attaching that balsa deck to a center stringer. I did that on a board that had broken in half, and it stiffened it up pretty well (more than I intended). Were you going to go stringerless?

Pat

ya, stringerless.

heres two links to a few boards like the one you described
