Single fin base template

What are the exact dimensions for the base of a single fin that will be used in a fin box (the part that fits into the actual box with the bolt etc) ?

Thickness? Height? Bolt size?

If I was using wood for the single fin would you suggest cutting the actual fin base shape out of the wood as well, or rather just letting the whole base be epoxy/poly with the wood fitting into it? I’ve seen a variety of different options online, but just wondering what everyone prefers/recommends.

Fins are good to make with wood and box fins aren’t hard, you just need to know how to make a base. I havn’t done box fins before but often make my own fcs tab side bites. All you need to do is get an old fin that already has a base. The fill a small (but long) container with silicone and place the old fin upright in it so it it covered up just past the base. Leave to set and once done, pull the fin out. As the silicone is rubbery and flexible it should allow this. Then you have youself a mould. File a tab to fit in the mould on the bottom of the fin and before you put the base on make sure you laminate and hotcoat the wood to a (nearly) finnished stage. Then chuck it in the mould, fill it with resin with that fibreglass powdered stuff (cant recall the name), let to set, sand off all the dodgy bits and you should be set.
