Forgive me please for not researching this but I didnt have very high confidence in finding the answer without more hands and brains … and hey I havent taken up any space in a while…
If I have two mid-lengths (funboards, sure – theyre fun) …
one a 7’6" x 21" thruster with a pull in the outline at about a foot…
and a 8’ x 21" with more of a straight eggy pintail…
the 7’6" has V from just ahead of the fins…
the 8’ has a single concave from about there…
The rocker on both tails is probably 2 inches - starting from an apex about 3.75 feet from the tailblock…
Which is the better candidate for a retrofit single box?
Leaving aside everything else if need be, the concave tail or the V?
Haha - he said ''apex''... Were you around for the epic rocker apex thread?
Probably advise the 7'6'' w/V. But not because of the V, but because it sounds like the outline (more pulled tail) is better suited to single.
I missed the epicness – I recall discussions from way back though about the relativity… meanwhile WP gets thrown around etc etc… I seem to recall you had eminently reasonable and eminent things to say about any and all of it. I used that term somewhat consciously at least… the 8 really has a bit of a stage to it at 4 foot or so… I was totally fulla shit about the 7’6" though. It’s a weeble-wobble.
Anyway, you were a large percentage of the target market for this post, so thanks, boss.
Welcome back J. I say single fin with the V only because that’s what I rode as a kid. Instead of beating up a board why not just build a new single fin to your liking? Mike
Hey Mike - thanks. Honestly, this little retrofit is to my liking. I’m pretty happy about it.
If and when I go to sanding foam again, I’m thinking about other things. Like thick little experimental glassless (maybe finless) blue foam boards… Stuff like that.
Not in a place conducive to make foam dust messes indoors right now, so that’ll have to wait a bit. Or not. I may just set to outside this apartment building.
How wide is the tail on 8’? It might be viable also. It wouldn’t be sways unless we got you good and confused, now would it?
