single fin fin suggestions

building a 7’2" single fin pin tail in the likeness of the lightning bolt Bertleman rode. So many fin options and sizes out there, which is most rad? Open to all suggestions. Looking for template ideas to make my own fin to glass on. Definitely has to have some aesthetic quality but function over fashion. Any idea what fin those bolt rider were using?

Thanks, Pico

just finished my 7'4 bolt yesterday and looking up the same info...

may I join your question?

Also looking for a fin for a 6'8 rounded pin. The best I found so far was this Lopez single. But does anyone make those old style Brewer single fins. Also, not exactly sure what size to go for.

Lopez 8.5" single

If I recall correctly, the Brewer “wide base” molded fins from Fins Unltd. were 5-7’8" base by 7-5/8" height. The reason the wide base was so wide was because the foils were very thick. These came out at the same time as the Downing 9" fin did (also with a thick foil) and the “Dol Fin” that Mike Hynson developed from a pantographic rendition of Cindy’s fin, a resident of Sea World.

If you took the thick foil and applied it to regular templated fins, you pretty much had a spin out special. I rode all of these fins back in the day, and very few of them are out there today. Which sort of amazes me as they were molded in a variety of pretty transparent acrylic colors, and were in wide use throughout the mid to late 70’s. My Downing worked really well in modest Sunset… thanks George!

greenough 4a about 7.5"? i was able to make a full size template by connecting laptop to tv and blew the picture up to size then traced it. Hope it works. Some of you throwback riders should have some insight, right?

wow ! that is nice> Love the black and red. thanks a lot fellas.

Yeah I have an 8" brewer from island fin design.

I ride my 6'6" with a rainbow fin TK flex.  I love the snap it creates coming out of a turn.

For the 9'6" I made recently I used a FCS "Finger" single fin.  This fin has a relatively short base.  The board turns on a dime, is fast, and noserides well.  Of course, the rails and dimensions are probably just as important as the fin in performance.

For my abilities and the types of waves we have, this is it, I'm sold.

And let me add this

another Brewer/ Parish fin from Fibre Glass fin Co.

this is on an 8'6" retro bolt thingy

Hmmm...

I already did my friend   http://www2.swaylocks.com/forums/1970s-pipeliner-bolt-questions-build-thread

B.t.w

the board rides beautifully .

yesterday ,  6am , 1.5 meter A-frames with spitting barrels , slight off shore ..totaly epic!

the board sticks to the face of the wave and puts you deep into the pocket .

it seems like you need to be brainless with this board.   it's on auto pilot into barrels.

I used a 6.5"  bonzer fin and it feels very good on that board.
