Single fin jig

Is there a shop that sells a single fin jig? I made my own, but it is lacking. I can’t seem to get it clean and crisp. It is frustrating trying to rout with my jig. I’ve not seen one for sale, so it seems that most of you folks made your own. If that is the case I guess I’ll have to perfect a way of making my own before I can finish my board. Any suggestions to how to get the jig straight (the sides have a warbol where my router took its own direction) and proper length? I have the futures jig and thought about trying to make the single with that jig, but haven’t attempted it yet.

Recently made a 6’3"x16 3/4"x 21x 15 1/2x 2 7/8 wide diamond tial at 10". I’ll post pics tomorrow, but to me its a mix between a 70’s single fin and an 80’s shorty.

Surf source has one with a router bit and bearing, you spray adhesive your jig to the board then rout the hole and set the box using the jig as an overflow dam.

thanks. I haven’t seen one before. I have the bit so that will save me some doh.

Just make sure your bit is the right length(so he hole is routed to the right depth)and the bearing on your bit is good or you’ll ruin your jig.

I was just thinking about that. Set the depth of my router properly!!! thanks again.

Ah ha! that’s the ticket. Plus I get to use my tools to build it. I like this much better. I have scrap wood and some clamps. sometimes the simplest solution is ofter overlooked! Thanks Huckleberry!

For one-offs, you don't even need a jig. Just fence off the baseplate of the router with some scrap wood taped to the board. Use the radius of baseplate minus 1/2 bit diameter formula to determine positions. Smaller diameter bit will give you tighter corner radius on route hole (but you'll need to take more passes). Of course, it's just one more step to glue these strips onto a sheet of something and you've got a working jig. Swaylock's has a way of making things way more complicated than they need to be, lol. Making an FU box jig is so simple even a shaper can do it.

Howzit aroq, I ha one I made and used for years then Jim of LokBox gave me one of his vacumn jigs that was the best I ever used. Aloha,Kokua

Stingray,

That is exactly what mine looks like but my long lines are not clean. They are wobbly. I guess I just need to work on my skills. I have limited tools so it makes it tough.

I use this one I made up from acrylic sheet and wood strips.  It simply frames the edges of the router I use which has an asymmetrical base.  I laid it out for a 15" box and use the insert for the standard box.  If you frame it to guide the router edges you can use a standard fluted straight cut bit - no bearing.

As always, measure twice to include the thickness of the jig.  Make sure you have enough board thickness to allow the cut.  I've seen quite a few boards with little graphic designs placed to cover boo boos when they cut too deep and went through.
