single fin stub idea, holiday project

Hey,

So i built an alaia during the summer and have surfed it a couple of times. I find myself wishing I was on a surfboard when I’m on it so i decided to build a surfboard during my christmas break. The idea is different . It will be a hull like shape without the rounded belly. My template is 5’10 and 22" inches wide, it’s like a corn dog. it will not be made of foam, Im gonna buy planks of wood, give them chambers, glue, and cut the shape out (leaving the rails and areas near the nose solid to avoid cutting into the chambers). I would like some input on what you guys think. I’m not exactly sure what wood to use, it will be whatever home depot has in their selection. And for the rocker…what if I left the entire deck flat and then just gave the bottom a long curve up to the nose and tail? or should i add some wood to the ends to make more of a real rocker?

I tried to insert a pdf for the shape but i dont think it worked

Thankyou

More than one balsa board, in the day, was done exactly that way.     Lots of balsa had no rocker at all.  So, it should be very functional in such a short board, as you propose.

Thankyou Bill!

Im so stoked about this board. So were you indirectly suggesting balsa?

Not exactly, but it is the better of the non foam choices.    I was just pointing out that a flat 9'0'' balsa board worked with about a 3 inch nose and tail rocker.

What would be a good wood to use besides palownia where i wouldnt need to glass it, just give it some coats of marine varnish

cedar, pine, redwood?
