I had a very early log sesh this morning and i was just feeling out the new fin i had purchased yesterday. Its a 9’0 with lots of rake. I realized that i hadent ridden a tri fin in several months.
Tri fins work great to do whatever you want whenever you want, but as far as free, fast open surfing, single fins completely do the trick for me. most of both my long and shortboards have a 2 +1 so i can use them either way, but i find that im most always using them as single fins.
being able to turn from so many points on the board and pump from up front more is so great, as is letting more of the wave generate my speed, instead of my side bites. Going fast where the wave wants and slower where it restricts you. i can tube ride better with 1 fin as well. the loosenes with a little bit of V - just so pivotal. rail changes are effortless.
single fins are like magic carpets, just flowing, flying around. I even prefer single fins when im riding short boards and hitting the lip, my 6’3 suits the job perfectly. Nose riding with a tri or 2 + 1 setup just doesn’t do it for me. its not smooth.
anyone else see my point?
