It cracks me up when people try to raise the prices on the skil’s. I am constantly watching eBay for them & it seems to me that what happened was last week all the planers in the $400-$500 range sold, leaving the one that was $800 being the only one for sale. When these idiots went to check eBay to see what is was worth they saw the guy with the $800 planer. Since they figured theirs is better they price it over $1000. Then the next does it & so on. They will eventually learn that no shaper in their right mind would pay over $600 for one unless it was totally mint. Hell you can get a new accurate for $1200.
Also kills me when they put “very rare” in the description. If it is so rare how come there are always at least 5 or more for sale at any given time haha. What a tool…
If I didn’t have a functional skil already, I’de snag that one too. Still might if its for sale by this evening…
Not to hijack the post- but does anyone have a skil base/foot sans the motor, drum, handle and front shoe? My 676 has the longer foot, and I’de like to get a spare base to modify into a shorter foot. Would rather modify or buy an orphan piece than buy a complete planer to use or mod…
There was a guy in Florida who carefully cut the tail on his long base. He had a metalwork friend rig a deal where the cut off piece could be re-attached quickly with a couple of screws. SImple solution to an old problem.
I am a damn skil junkie thinking about the 190 on ebay for $299. It is a good deal. Someone buy it PLEASE. I fuckin don’t need it. Lord help me in my weakness.
Contact PeteC. I’ll bet he has some extra parts available. Still, it might be more rewarding in the long run, to get a second planer. That way, no down time changing bases. Just a thought. (that’s what I did)
Hanging doors!!! Ha!!! I was talking to a longtime well known shaper a while back and I asked him what planer he used and he looked at me like I had three heads and said “Planer??? I haven’t used a planer in at least 3 years.”
Careful here. Once you get a really good one for a ridiculous low price, you want to find another, then another… There’s are a lot of guys here that will admit to this. It’s an obsession like the pickers who go to antique and estate sales, auctions, etc. One morning you wake up and realize that you have 10. Then you put them on eBay and ask $1K each and look like one of those scalpers. It’s a real disorder, ASHS (Adult Skil Hoarding Syndrome), and I’m currently in rehab.
Hamrock, Don’t even cut that 676 base. I have 100 bases, PM me and let me know how short you want it. I have really short ones (cut at the handle) and full size.
I found one for 305.00 shipped to hawaii . Got in touch with Pete C to do his magic and that thing came out like brand new . I’m currently looking for another to use for my shortboards . After using the skil , my brand new still in the box hitachi is up for sale or trade .
Everyone on here should hit up the Original posters buddy and click make an offer, and EVERYONE offer 300 or less. Suddenly his 450 will look a lot better

Howzit Mr Clean, I try to hit the garage sales here in Havasu since it was built on construction for a financial base so there is a lot of tools since there is not a lot of construction these days. But I haven’t found one yet. How are you these days. Aloha,Kokua
Man, what the hell- you can reply to individual comments in a non-linear order in threads? Confusing.
And DAMN: glad that 190 sold, but I hope the original poster got it. Otherwise I was ready to log onto ebay right after this comment and snag, and joint the ranks of compulsive-tool-buyers.
Hay Cleanlines: I bought that one. It’s in good condition. I’m refurbishing it. Going to polish it. When I disassembled it, it had alot wood dust inside. It doesn’t look like it had ever been blown out. I beleave that it was probably manufactured somewere around 1955 or 56 The armature and feild did show very slight signs of heating. But cleaned up with electricle motor creaner nicely. The commutator shows only a tiny bit of wear. Pretty darn good for such an old machine. I reassembled and tested it. It’s running smooth ,stong ,and cool now. I’m positive that it hase a whole lot more life left in it. I’ll have it done in a couple of weeks. I’ll post photos when it’s done. I think $299.00 was a good bargan. It was nice to find someone on eBay that wasn’t an idiot asking for a ridiculously high price. The new blades, belt, bearings, brushes, 25’ cord cost me about $95.00 more. Shipping was $22.40 So all together it came to $416.40
