Anybody know of a good source for Skil 100 belts? Mine just broke. Not sure if I want to buy one on eBay that may have been sitting in a box for 30 years and be dried out before I even install it. Looks like its time to start tinkering with the Hitachi I bought last year.
Get ANY Skil 100 belt that you can. Then give it a soaking spray of Armorall. Wait a day before installing. PeteC may know of a source too. I think Skil still makes that part available. Not cheap anymore!
Try Petec. He's my first recomendation. Otherwise; If you buy one from Ebay, make sure it's in a sealed package. Less likly to be old and brittle. The ones I saw on there last week were about $26 plus the shipping. If you can swing it buy two. I always keep a spare around. I've got a used one I could put in an envelope and send you, but I don't think it would last too long. It's started to separate a little at the joint/seem.

FYI...there are some people on ebay making ridiculous profits because they want you to believe these parts are no longer available or hard to find. Mako, if you need a belt right away I have an extra. text or call me
Thanks Rand. Great info. I had left a message via facebook earlier. Lost your cell number. I’m all good now. I ordered a new belt from Sears of all places.
This little setback forced me to make some quick mods to the Hitachi I bought on eBay a year ago and never bothered with. I finished the board I was working on and will glass it tomorrow. The Hitachi worked great for thinning the blank but it wasn’t very useful for rail bands. I would need to come up with some serious mods to the shutter to make it useful for making rail bands. The factory knob takes probably 5 full turns to go from 0 to wide open.
Nice post there Rand. Heads up people... the guy seriously deserves a standing ovation for that one.
Wrapped up the new board this afternoon. The 30 hour surfboard. Would have had it done in one day if not for the blown belt. My daughter's 10th birthday present. She provided the artwork.
My first board with UV Cure Resin. Amazing how fast you can glass a board with it. Glassed in under 4 hours.
Looks great Mako. Just in time for decent waves and an empty OC lineup. Nice timing. Oh, and happy birthday to makodaughter!
