For shaping a Skil 100 7.5 is the best tool. No doubt. And I do appreciate them. I’m back to two of them after selling off a couple year before last during my first poverty stricken winter in Oregon. Mostly to me they are a damned good tool for the purpose of shaping surfboards. I’m not a collector. I used to have about forty old 60’s surfboards too. I’m trying to remember; Why? Lowel
For the premium bearings the part# 629ZZNA You have to call ANK for new blades because they don’t show on there website. You can also PM PeteC here on Swaylocks for any other needs. Eurton electric rewinds armatures $95.00+tax and shipping
You can also find parts here. http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Skil-Parts/Planer-Parts/Model-100TYPE4/0981/0734000/00030297/00001?blt=06&prst=&shdMod=
…hey Mcding, no doubt that you are a contentious guy…months ago when I said that the Skill 100 7.5 was more powerful and better than the other versions, you did not say: “For shaping a Skil 100 7.5 is the best tool. No doubt.”
-Wavecraft, what happens after that polish treatment that you did, that get rid of the protection finish that the tool has, regarding rusting, etc? You just keep polishing every few weeks?
Thanks
7.5 is the best but only because of the Amps. 5.5 is right there with it. And as usual you got lost in the language barrier months ago. That is NOT what you said. I know what I said and in the context that I said it. As I remember it was a rebuttle to a stupid remark you made about how Skil 100 5.5 Amps were no good for shaping surfboards… Don’t put words in mi boca Rambo. Lowel
The Skil 190 and 676 planers never had paint on them to begin with. Skil didn’t start painting them till the early model 100 type 2s came out, and some of those didn’t have paint eather. There made of cast aluminum alloy so they don’t rust. Hopefully no one here would store there planers in an environment conducive to rust anyway. I just wipe mine down with an old t-shirt from time to time. I take good care of all my tools especially my Skil planers. Here’s a photo of my daily driver. Modified 7.5 type 5 with the Pete Casica modified front shoe.
Mitch– That “turbo” is killer. I missed the opportunity to add one to my Skil due to lack of funds a year or two ago. Always wanted to try one. Lowel
The Steve Boehne Skil 100 Super Charger exhaust chute. If you call Fiberglass Hawaii (the one in Hawaii) you can buy one from them. Pricey though $75.00+shipping used to cost $35.00 10 or 15 years ago.
I’ll try 'em. Thanks Mitch.
What is that thing?
Angus-
Where can you get triggers ?
Greg
It’s an exhaust assisted chip deflector (dust chute) that utilizes the exhaust flow from the motor to blow the dust out more efficiently.
Can’t find them anymore. They come up on eBay from time to time. There’s a guy that has a lot of Skil 100 parts listed on eBay right now. He goes by the name Oldtoolguy. Type in Skil 100 planer and find one of his listings. Then send him a message asking if he has one. If he doesn’t, find a real tool shop that does tool repair to see if they can get a trigger that fits a porter Cable 126 door planer. It won’t have the cardboard shield, so you will have to wrap it with electrical tape after you attach the wires and before you install it and put the handle cover back on. Try contacting PeteC here on Swaylocks. He may know an exact part number to get one from Eurton electric.
Pete, are you out there?
I bought an old SKIL circular saw at a yard sale. The trigger was same as planer. These saws are pretty common. You have to buy the old all aluminum models.
Doug Haut told me there is a skil trigger that fits .
Never followed up on that .
