Skil Planer Experts: Whats the difference between Skil 676 and a Skil 100?

Every once in a while I come across a Skil 676 planer in the classifieds. What is the differences between a Skil 676 and a Skil 100? I Googled 676 but came up blank.

Thanks,

D

I found this manual for the 676 I hope this helps. http://q-lon.net/PDF/Skil_676_manual_1956.pdf

. The older 656 had less ribs in the shoe and it would break easier. When the Skil100 came out they added two more ribs to the shoe casting to keep it from snapping so easy. (kind of like adding stringers to a board). Outside of that they are identical. The skil100 was a work in progress.Type I 2 3 4 etc. etc. all had minor changes over the years. The only major changes I saw were the jump from 5.5 Amps to 7.5 Amps, better insulation, and the addition of a carbide blade head on the Heavy Duty model. These are pretty rare. They also made few in 220 volt. The skil100 made for the Euro market had a completely different motor. R. Brucker

Note…I meant 676. When you hit 60 years you kind of forget things.

Howzit Mr Clean so in other words if you are careful and don’t abuse the 676 you have a lightweight built 100 that should basically work the same.Aloha,Kokua

So was the Skil 190 before or after the 676? I have a 5.5 amp 190… still trying to find blades or a barrel for it.

Howzit Kokua. Glad to see you are kicking. Yep…it was just a lighter model. I think the 190 was the first in production. Had the same base as 576. Pretty sure the cutter barrels are interchangeable on all of them.I once bought a huge lot of broken Skils from a boatyard and all of the parts worked with each other as best I can remember. I have limited knowledge about motor parts though.

Anybody have a spare factory made dust chute??? (Yep I know I can make one but I want an original). Just some weird quirk in my head I guess. Maybe Magic Man has one LOL. (only Magic will see the humour in that comment) R Brucker
