Do you think it is possible to make a mould out of cardboard or something and use pour foam as a corre for my skimboard. something like x 30 pour foam? It should work and it is very buyant and strong.
any ideas??? any would be appreciated
Why not buy yourself a blank or a ‘seconds’ blank and save yourself the time, effort and exposure to “potentially” carcinogenic materials ?
Or do a bit of recycling and strip an old surfboard.
Or you could buy styrofoam sheet and use that for the extra bouyancy it could provide in such a critical situation such as skimboarding… (but use epoxy resins)

Just buy some 3/4 styrofoam, cut out your template, turn down the rails, and glue up to a stringer with your rocker, and glass it. That’s what I did (and am doing on numero dos), and it works great. Bear in mind that unless you’re willing to spend some serious time, effort and $$ in your project, you are better off buying a vic, zap or exile board premade, as there isn’t much cost savings on your first board (Once you get the hang of it, it is much cheaper, but my first one easily cost as much as a Victoria Foamy.) Once you know what you are doing, you can get a good one built for around $60, but all the extra resin and glue you use because of screw ups on your first try really jack the price up.
Oh, if you have any questions on design or the build process, pm me, I can even send you some templates with rocker and everything, I’m really the onlyone here that still makes skimboards I think, Deathfrog used to, but I don’t think he does it anymore, he’s still a good source of info though. PM me with your size and weight and I’ll draw one up for you.
so is it possible though to pour foam in a cardboard mould and then shape it?
I don’t know much about pour foams, but why would you want to? It’s way too much effort, and pour foams are usually very messy, I wouldn’t trust the bond between your glass and the foam either, some of the gasses used to blow foam are hazardous one, and second if the foam starts releasing it’s gasses in hot weather, they could cause the glass to delaminate.
i tried eps but it just snapped
Ya the only reason i thought of using pour foam is because it is very strong and probably won’t snap, very bouyant, and good to put a shape into.
nathan i pm’d you
There are very good epoxy pour foams and if used with epoxy/glass the bond is incredible. The foams come out fairly high density but I have used it for cores on dinghy centreboards and rudders.
