Last project of the year. Skin Diver Sled.4’ x 28.5" x 3.75". Next year’s refinement will be 27" wide, concave deck and machine shaped so we can keep up with the demand. .
very cool!!
Made a few from boogie boards back in the days before it became illegal to spearfish here. But these were too narrow and flipped over easily, yours is the right size. Always better to keep the fish out of the water and towed on a long line behind you, a stringer on your weight belt is ringing the dinner bell. So my trick on these was to put the clamp from a battery jumper cable on the end of line and clip it to the reef or kelp for a temp anchor; clip to a D-ring on your belt for towing. I stole that from the old-school divers from the 1950’s who used a sled made from an innertube with a burlap sack tied in the middle. They needed that for the hubcap-sized abalone which were everywhere back then.
That’s right. Saw a lot of those inner tube setups in the old days up in Shell Beach. They used to have a big meet every year and give trophies for the biggest Red or Black. Biggest bag Iimit etc. Then came the cute little Otter.
Very nice UncleD.
High demand can be a good problem to have.
It looks really good finished with all the bells and whistles. Nice craftsmanship uncled!
