Skip Frye 10'6" Eagle

I’ve recently aquired a Frye Eagle 10’6". This board is a bear to turn. Anyone out there have an opinion on the best fin for this board.

Thanks

Rick

I read somewhere that Skip used a 7" fin on his 11’-0" boards.

What fin are you using now? I’ve used a 9" Liddle flex fin in my 10 Frye boards. Keep in mind, they are not what I would call “high performance” longboards. The Eagle is pretty flat in rocker and has a lot of belly. A 10’6" will always have a more directional feel. It’s more about the glide with that style board.

Dununba how wide is the tail?

I use an 8" whaletail fin in my 9’8", dimensions 9’8" x 19 x 23 x 19, with parallel rails. It looks like a Simmons board. Anything bigger and the board didn’t work.

I have a 11-0 Eagle and use a 9.5in.Fins Unlimited"SKIP FRYE"fin.Give them a call.

I’ve been using a 7" fin. it’s got a cut (slice approx. 1/8" thick), at the base, that starts at the trailing edge and goes about halfway through. i chose it from a box of fins that Skip had (when I picked up the board). He said it was a fin that Hank Warner designed and liked to use. The board has two small side fins in boxes. I haven’t rode it enough to really get a feel for it yet. I totally agree with your description on the way these boards ride. I’m not looking to make the board do something it wasn’t made to do, i.e. tight turns, etc., however if I could get it to loosen up just a bit. It’s a lot of board and heavy as well. If I’m not in the right spot on the board and turn, the inertia from all that weight just sends me to places I don’t want to be …out the back of the wave, into my buddy, a cutback that just keeps going forever…hehe.

I hear what you’re saying. A big heavy flat board can really get going if allowed to find their track but trying to overpower one can be an exercise in futility. If the side bites aren’t glassed in, you could try it as a single. If the side bites are glassed on, try moving the center fin up in the box a little bit at a time. If it still doesn’t want to turn, maybe a smaller center fin?
