You may be able to tell if you take a close look at the rails. Skips rails are unique. If you have never fondled one this may not help you. Maybe he seems sketchy becuase it is a stolen board? Take a pic and post it first. Maybe people here can help tell if it is the real deal or potentially a “hot” item. Good luck.
Here is a ‘rail grab’ off a Frye longboard. Interestingly enough, even his fish boards have a similar rail shape. Tails tend to be rather sharp and from mid point forward more of a softened ‘tri-plane’ bottom.
All said and done, a good counterfeit board can be damn hard to decipher from the real thing.
Seems like the newer Skip Frye boards I’ve seen all have a complex bottom. Multiple concaves running all the way. Saw them in SD at Cliffs when we surfed with Keith, Jay, and friends. I didn’t look closely at the rails, but the bottom caught my eye. There’s a shop near my house that usually has one of his glider boards. Very expensive.
