small gouge in otherwise finished blank

What do you use to fill a small gouge in an otherwise finished blank? I must have accidently bumped something up against my board, as I have noticed a small gouge in the rail. It’s a little too big for be to want to just sand down to it. I saw some info in the archives about resin and q-cell, but I think that might be more related to larger areas of damage. I appreciate any help.

plug it with foam if its bigger than a quarter squared if smaller than a dime squared then just glass it,… and the resin will fill it nicely …rule #1 dont sweat the small stuff…ambrose…bigger flaws will appear if you fix the littke ones, the little flaws tend to monopolize your attention

If its a dent (no foam removed in the accident) try a heat gun, but carefully.

or you could use lightweight spackle to plug it up

Thanks for the help guys. It’s smaller than a dime squared, but I think I’ll fill it with spackle before I paint it. It’s probably not necessary, but it will take my mind off of it while I’m painting and glassing. Do you use any particular kind of spackle, or just any one from the hardware store?

Light weight spackle, get the stuff that’s in a calking tube & gun, it’s cleaner and easier to use. Get it where you buy dry wall. -Jay

Spackle will show if you paint.

Some spackle turns brown under clear lam coat.Ambrose convinced me after my episode with big air bubbles that filling with foam is the way to go.
