I’m Back on the scene!!! After a year of being a complete and utter waster, smoking too much pot and partying too much, I’ve finally remembered what my purpose on earth is!!! To make surfboards and skateboards and other thing for people to ride!!! My girlfriend’s dad is an absolute wizard with bio-composites, (he’s been working with david rothschild on an eco project called the plastiki, a catamaran built out of plastic bottles!!) And he and I have just started renting a big shed on top of a hill that i can see from our house (pics will come soon). This means a new shaping bay, Glassing room, And woodwork room (and dont forget the sofa and tv for when my resins going off!!) I’ve realised that unless the facilities are perfect, you’re never going to achiev the desired results, so there’ll be no rush-jobs here. It’ll be a long project to get it all set up, but hopefully by next year it should be up and running, and fully functioning. I am close friends with a guy who’s absolutely shit-hot with his design work, logos etc, so I’ll be working with him to come up with a cool (yet classy haha) logo, for smalltown boardriding. In my workshop, i’ll hopefully be making surfboards, paddleboards (stock and unlimited), sup paddleboards, kneeboards, skateboards and longboards (skateboards). I’ll be making presses, moulds, hotboxes and jigs. I’ll also be doing loads of brainstorming, so I would really appreciate all of your guys help, as i know a lot of you are very knowledgeable and willing to help a fellow shaper out. (also if any of you decide to come to cornwall surfing, I’ll owe you a few surfs at a few of our local spots)!
The shed is part of The Rame conservation Trust, And is a load of old buildings that were built around the second world war kind of time. Our shed is the old coalshed!! So its a place with a bit of charachter! We haven’t worked out who’s having what yet, but hopefully will do soon, and when we do, I’ll let you guys know, and I’ll also come up with a few drawings, so we can all spitball about what will be the best use of it.
I will be starting posts about different things, probably before i start on the worksop, only because while i’m not too busy it will be good to fill up my head with ideas etc, and also give me time to mull over all the processes before i start.
So, Here goes, will keep you updated on the progress, and any comments and advice and help will be greatly appreeciated!!
P.s. to all of you that helped me try and think of a name for my boards about two years ago, what do ya think of Smalltown??
