snap repair - cloth thickness?

Hi ya’ll. Im attempting to repair my mint Adams (well, apart from being in 2 bits). Apologies if in previous threads but cant find this exact question… Does the cloth thickness of repair matter? Have read some ppl using 2 or 3 x 6onz or 3 x 4 onz. I assume I want to avoid making the repair section stronger than the other two halves making a hard spot? (also i plan to use epoxy in repair while board poly) thanks!

Also, do people first add cloth or Filler to the crack section with exposed foam to match the height of surrounding glass before wrapping the whole repair section with cloth?

I’d use same as original glassing schedule…if the board is all 4oz stick to that etc. just make sure the patches are wide and progressively get narrower. I’d start with a10" wide then drop by 2" for layer 2 and further 2" for layer 3. You need to glue the blank together first with something like a foaming polyeurathane adhesive the sand it. After that fill all voids with resin a q cell. Once sanded flush glass with your patches…make sure your patches lap round the rails plenty. Cheers rich

I have heard of folks putting the narrower pieces UNDER the wider pieces so the whole thing is easier to fair in and just as strong.

Could work Chrisp but that way round there’s risk of breaking through layers when sanding…if the bigger layers are at the bottom your sure not to break through.

I see what you mean Thirdshade… I was just repeating what I’ve read here. I’ve never fixed a broken board though…

BTW, that is a great avatar shot! I’ve always liked it.
