so whats wrong with this board

so im fixing a snapped in half epoxy board and when i started prep sanding it the resin would start gunking up on the board and my sand paper

the deck sanded down fine but when i started to sand the bottom thats where there is some thing wrong with this resin

ive never encountered this problem

well ive seen epoxy boards that dont cure properly an all but if that is the case with this board then how did they sand the board down to begin with

any thoughts would be appreciated

the area on the board that looks like its sanded down is the resin gunking up on its self

Maybe there was a finsish sprayed on the board after it was finished?

Also, I’m curious, could you please define “epoxy” in this instance.

Is it custom shaped EPS/epoxy or Smurftech or ???

i believe its a custom built eps board but there are no signatures on it or measurements and if there was a logo on it its gone now (there was alot of fiberglass missing when i got it) so who knows where this thing came from

Actually that is a shape by Resinhead. It came back from Hawaii in that condition......I think the fin has a small chunk out too.

It is a 8'6" , 21.5 wide, nose 13, and tail 13....pintail......It has a beige PVC plastic stringer.  it's 2lb EPS with RR Epoxy.  I think it was broken in Hawaii about 1 month ago.

That stuff on the outside is Krylon clear paint.  I'm not sure if anything else got on it?

Just straight Epoxy over warp glass.

well there you go

Don't you just love the internet.

I would assume the stuff you used to take off the wax on the top, would work good on the bottom.  Maybe a light acetone bath to get the spray sealer off.   I used Krylon on that board, because he didn't want a shiny UPOL polish out finish.

i just use a razor blade scrapper to take the wax off but like i said the deck sanded fine its just the bottom thats wierd

oh and why in the hell arent you fixing this board, its your creation, your problem, now come and take this thing off my hands

The  sanding disc is creating to much heat and melting the Krylon finish, gumming up your paper. try acetone and lacquer thinner wash then sand with a slower type machine or maybe even hand sand.

ya i slowed down the sander alot and now its all sanded

thanks for the help

I was going to but the day job keeps getting in my way....I'm up to my neck in new board orders for the guys....Last Friday wrecked havoc on body and board...Ask me about my ass, and my lack of being able to move for 3 days. But I digress..  That's Mr X's favorite ride, and he wanted a new one. But with Segway Ken operation shut down, I'm having a hell of a time finding that blank rocker profile in that length & width.  So the back up plan is Frankstein that bad baby back together until I can find a suitable blank.

Happy Sanding.

I think I'll start at least putting specs on the boards....length, width, thickness. blank density, epoxy type, Mystery coating that gums sand paper etc.

its all good i could always use some more work since this is my day job and good luck find a blank

Resin,

I recommend using genuine 3M products in the future…to avoid this problem.    Mike

Excuse me Mr Rooster.. All 3M products are genuine.

Only use quality 3M products!

Hahah, you guys make me wanna

Seriously tho, I used my quality 3M fairing disc adhesive today, and loved it. Quality product.

Maybe a US Blanks 8-2 A ????     The one I just bought is 4" thick.

What happened to Ken...I'm geting lots of small bits of info that don't add up?

Hi Ray -

I didn't believe it myself until I checked his website where he made the announcement...  I cut/pasted this right off the Segway homepage.

Segway Composites is  no longer  operational and the assets are being sold to Satori Paddleboards until further notice.  Please contact Nick  Scheef at 954.849.6277
