solomonson

Hi,

my name is Sarah.

I am Dale solomonsons daughter of Neumatic surfcraft.

I don’t know too much about surfing but when I’m a little older my dad is gonna teach me how to surf, so i’m excited!

any tips on surfing are appreciated.

Sarah Just make sure to have fun.And a good wetsuit here in Oregon. Gordon

Between your fathers knowledge, the place where you live, and the people you’ll meet in the oregon surf community, you’re covered. Sound advice that a well crafted wetsuit will make surfing here so much more enjoyable. You can milk a little performance out of a clunker board, but you just can’t make a crummy wetsuit do anything but leak cold water.

See ya in da water when you travel south.

Sarah,

Based on your spelling and composition I would suggest you are already old enough to be surfing. Accordingly, you should drag your dad out of his shop and into the water. He will enjoy the break. Just this past weekend my daughter harangued me into driving through the snow to surf with the words, “BUT…YOU PROMISED!”

As to actual surfing with your dad one of my daughters favorite techniques is to paddle up slowly behind me grab my leash and yell shark. This might be more difficult if your dad is using fins but I am sure he will appreciate the rapid increase in his heart rate.

In any case, have fun.

Patrick

you lucky girl !

Learning on a surf mat is fun…I wish I still had one in my quiver . [the ‘li-lo’ exploded ! … pop! boo hoo , but also…hehehe.]

Learning on a surfboard is fun.

Maybe dad could even design the best of both worlds for you…the inflatable surfboard.

And while you’re at it, since you’re handy with rubber Dale, how about a wetsuit , custom made for the bonny wee lassie ? eh ? what say you ?

I look forward to hearing of a female Greenough / Rasta in the years to come…you read it first on ‘Swaylocks’ !

go girl go !

Hello Sarah, you’re very lucky being Dale’s daughter, even more if you like surfing.

Grab a wetsuit (would be better if it’s used… you’ll grow up really fast) and a pair of fins and go to the water to know how waves, currents, and the sea in general, work. Try to ride some waves bodysurfing (don’t try it on shallow water!!), and try to feel comfortable in the water. After some sessions doing that, you’re ready to go to the water with the toy you would like to… a surfmat, surfboard, bodyboard, whatever you like.

Welcome to Swaylocks, and welcome to the surfing world Sarah.

I’ll send you some good waves from Spain!!!

Coque.

Hey Sarah,

Just have fun and stay stoked. oh and get your dad to take you surfing whenever possible (thats what i do!)

Josh.

Hey Sarah,

Next time your dad and I talk on the phone make sure he puts you on so we can get some surftalk in.

Wow Sarah - Does your dad know you’re “on” here? It can be a dangerous and confussing place. Ha! But seriously, are you swimming? I am not sure of most peoples thoughts on this, but as ambrose pointed out once, basic strong swimming abilities should be a key ingrediant in any waterpersons skill set. Especilly in our coner of the world, with the often big tides, and attendent currents. And, as everyone pointed out, a good wet suit will make lots of difference. When I first started, not long before you dad took me under his wing, I had only a short sleave “beaver tail,” and i would stay out until I couldn’t move my hands or feel my feet - not the best way to start, so… Other than that - your dad can hook you up. I’ll make sure to stop by and say high to you too next time I’m in town.
