Went off b4 I could press all the way inn - it’s very hot around here these days. To build up the one foam side to be even with the box should I just use multiple layers of glass? Three might do it.I was thinking of putting the layers under the main layer of glass - I might try it first on scrap foam.
Hey 220grit,
First, if one side of the box lip is sticking up, then your fin is most likely out of alignment.
Second, the Futures box depends upon a direct mechanical bond of the upper flange face (the part of the box that is exposed when it is installed) to your bottom lamination.
Your best bet would be to bolt a fin into the box and try and tear the box out vertically upward. You might need to cut around the box with a razor blade to release it from the blank a bit. It is okay to bring some foam chunk with the box.
Then just re-machine the hole again and sand off the resin stuck to the box. Use some Q-cell or Cab-O-Sil with resin as a gap filler to re-install the box properly. Be sure the upper flange face is flush with the blank and continue your work.
The box is not that off, maybe just 1/32 of an inch high. It’s also just on one side - the rail side and just one box. Since I bring up the hot coat anyway, I can just start with a couple of multi layers of lam glass. This is for a fish and after I get to the sanding of the final hotcoat it should be fine. tearing it out is not an option as the box is close to the rail. Thanks for your reply.
