South Bay Surfer Dies

Thought I’d post this note with a paste from Surfline below regarding the death of Mario Ciauri (I have also placed this post in the longboard.net forum). He had a surfing accident in Solana Beach in small waves, hitting his head on a sandbar (surfing there with his kids on the way back from a soccer game in San Diego). Med evac and a coma for nearly two weeks before the end came.

Mario was a good guy . . .especially contrasted by a lot of idiots one might run into on the hill. I surf a lot by myself and when I first came to the hill and started dealing with the pecking order, Mario was one of the truly friendly faces I’d run across. Anyone who can spare a donation will get karma points.

On Sept. 21, the SouthBay Surf community lost one of it’s best people, Mario Ciauri. Mario was a longtime “Core” PV Cove local. He was one of the most positve, nice people to ever grace the waves of the Cove. He will be missed most by his family, especially his wife Jennifer and his 2 sons ,Nicholas and Michael, but also by all of us who surfed with him at the Cove. There will be a Memorial Service Friday, Oct. 7 at Noon at the Neighborhood Church and a “paddle-out” at the Cove on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 9:00am. Please help out Jenny and the boys by donating to his Memorial Fund. Contact Smith-Barney, Rebbecca Kennedy, PO Box 2809, Rolling Hills Estates, CA 90274 for info. Can’t ask for a better epitaph…
