South Pacific Surf Trip

What’s up ya’ll. Alright I’m looking to take a trip to the South Pacific in which I can score some fun - good sized barrells (not killers) over a somewhat deeper reef (3-4-5 foot +). I have travelled to south and central america several times, been out to Cali a few and surfed up and down the East coast. I’ve Been surfing for about 7 years and am comfortable in waves up to double overhead +. Never seen or surfed triple o, though. I am at a more advanced level of surfing, but have no REAL barrell experience to speak of. I have been barrelled/covered up at home and on the road many times (though most of which were closeouts that lasted no more than a few seconds), only a handful have I actually made it out of cleanly. I want to hone my barrell skills to the point where I am really riding them. I also want to do it in a place where the surf consistenly barrels and the margin for error is not ubber small. Finally, I am a goofy footer and while I am perfectly comfortable going right, I would not find it ideal while trying to test the waters of real tube riding.

Bottom line:

  • Looking for chest-head +, semi-predictable, clean barells over a “not so shallow” reef in the South Pacific.
  • Does such a place exist?
  • Where?
  • When is the best time to find these ideal conditions?
  • Price is somewhat of a concern, 3K is my limit (including everything).

Thanks to all!

it’s gonna be a bit different in the south pacific.

They say that we have to practice here at some spots like pipe, yokes, even sandy’s to get your timing for the quickness of the pitch before going off to samoa, fiji or tahiti. You have to get your timing down or you’re going over the falls alot till you do. There’s lots of places for a goofy footer and it’s a bit more westernized (safer/saner) in the south pacific(Salani/Tavarua) than the west pacific (Meta/Indo). Alot more connections land, air and sea to make out west as well.

I don’t know about costs… Could be cheaper out in the wild wild west than the touristy south.

“deeper reef”?? is not anywhere out here as most everywhere is shallow…

New Guinea , Kavieng in the new Ireland province. It has a right hander to die for. not to deadly and the fishin is good too.
