Well it looks like I lied and am heading down the slippery slope to addict status. I am going to try and do no more than one post in a day.
When shapers shape boards they measure what they do. They measure length, thickness, width, weight, fin placement and dimensions, rocker and rider weight. We do this because it is useful. A speed discussion without any attempt to measure speed is just so much hot air. try fronting up with some measurements before you make sweeping claims like ‘speed for trim is dead’. Get a gps or a video camera and put some figures where your mouth is.
PS I accidentally used James’ username as he was already logged in. oops.

While exact top speed is unknown if you have ever seen Slater, Fanning, Taj, or anyone near that talent lever its obvious whos going the fastest in the water. Comparing them to the average Joe its not close. Their making sections that no one else makes. Their doing more maneuvers and generating obviously higher speeds than the average surfer. Hell if your not going fast many of those moves arent even possible.

Slater, Fanning, Taj… Yea, fastest I’ve ever seen… until one day I see this guy in an orange wetsuit on a really long board… he drops in and takes forever to get up, once up he stands facing the board instead of sideways, then he crouches down and grabs a rail and BOOM! He’s gone. Fastest thing I’ve ever seen… he must have been going three times faster than anyone else out there… didn’t pump once. …true story.
