speed coat and hot coat

Aloha there,

I heard some poeple doing a speed coat (squeege coat) and then hot coat. Do you do that with polyester resin ? If yes, do you sand the speed coat before applying the final hot coat?

Thanks.

Eric.

I don’t do that but if I did that first coat would be lam resin so I would not have to sand before doing the hot coat.

Aka;  “Cheater Coat”.   Poly Lam resin squeeged on immediately after lamination.  Rails tucked, corners and cuts down at nose and tail.  Lay on a quick coat of lam resin to fill weave and catch dry spots.  You will have to guess at the amount based on the size of the blank.  You won’t need much as everything should already be saturated.  If you get your lamination skills down, you shouldn’t need to do this.   But!  You’d be surprised how many Pro laminators do.

Hello,

Thanks for your replies. If you do this squeege coat do you add WAX IN STYRENE into it or just lam resin?

Poly Lam resin by definition does not have Styrene Wax added.
