Mr. J and Speedneedle…
Checkout the SCs I sent to Chippy !
Herb
Hey Herb,
Yes, I looked at Chips thread. The Chargers are not the same as the ones MrJ passed on to me?
Still waiting for a swell, but its given me loads of time for this…
How would a quad go with 4 sc’s?
Josh
nice josh what is timber on deck is it 2ml or are you using veneer
** huieshapes@bigpond.com

Hey mate,
Its not veneer…Pawlonia planks planed down as far as it gets. 1.5mm bottom, 2mm decks.
Josh
on a completely related top pic ,
with the left over bits of the lime green [and , hopefully, also with the magenta tint and the tri-colour panels?] i will make a coupla lil superchargers . all mine have been at least 2x2" , in the past , so now i have a use for panel offcuts , yeeehaaa…STOKED !!
cheers !
ben
i LOVE seeing swaylocks collaboration boards and fins …i wonder where hicksy went ??
Sweet board!!
And I’m going to have to give you some points for the Pink XPS foam. Needs some hearts and Roxy logos on top instead of a skull though.
Must be EPS in the core with the vent, No?
Well Lavarat, it so happens that I LIKE the pink…acthually…and not XPS either.
But no, really…shhh…iths not pink, iths “Solarium tan”.
Yes, a vent in 1lb. EPS…
Josh
Speedy,
Chips Superchargers are the same, exactly as the ones sent to Mr.J.
I sent both Mike and Ben finished SCs and straight out of the mold unfinished jobs.(1 SET FINISHED,2 SETS UNFINISHED TO Chipsfish),(2 SETS FINISHED,2 SETS UNFINISHED TO Mr.J).The colors are different, but that’s all.
On your quad ,just supercharge the front/leading fins.No need to draft the rear fins, because they are already getting drafted by the forward cluster.
I have already done this in several boards and the results are dramatic…again 100%OUTSTANDING performance !
Give it a try…if you don’t like it…I pay for the board + shipping and keep it in my collection.
That’s how sure I am of my Supercharger’s performance levels.
Herb
Hey,
MrJ. was nice enough to comment on the board he rode in BigSur 04 sways gathering.
Those SCs are from the same mold/casts as well.
SC that Quad…Speedy !
You won’t regret it !
Herb
Good stuff,huh.
Greg and Josh are definitely Swaylock’s Legends.
Herb
Aloha Herb,Either I am blind or an idiot because the only reference I see as far as SC placement goes is the pictures in the first post. It looks like the SC’s are slightly forward and near the rail of the board. A more precise measurement would be better and would that same placement work on a high perforemance 9’0" longboard. Aloha Kokua
About 1" to 1-1/4" apart from the main fin.
Half to 3/4 the SC’s base length, forward of the leading edge of the main fin.
And half the toe and cant of the main fins.
Does this help?
Herb
Thanks Mr.J,
I LOVE THE HAT !!!
All my fiends are envious…lol.
Herb
“All my fiends are envious…”
How many FIENDS have you got Herb?
Anyway, I still have’nt had MrJ tell me how the board goes…its been unprecedentedly crap waves around here lately, though I did get caught out one session on a twinny when it jacked from 3 to 8 feet in about an hour…
Josh
I’m glad you like the hat Herb, I’m certainly happy with our exchange!
cheers,
Mike
As mentioned at the start of this thread this is my step up board for the flyer 2.
I’ve said on Dave Verral’s “choppy designs” thread that to me the Flyer 2 is the holy grail of all round shortboards, so to produce a step up for the flyer is a tall order - thread link here http://www2.swaylocks.com/node/1029469 but the forum changeover has done strange things to my post - look for the pic I posted of the beach and my post below it, but I quoted Dave and his post is now appended to mine so its hard to see where my post starts. But I explain why I think the flyers double to single, double set in a single worked in texture. So my reasoning was that my request for a double to single with the double set flat should handle chop/texture even better.
double starts approx half way down the racing stripe and single runs into the fin area, with Speedy’s spray job encouraging the water flow.
Rocker produced from scaled flyer rocker - see posts at start of this thread. Fin rear to front distances maintained, but pushed further up to compensate for narrow tail and rounded pin. Fins are smaller than on the flyer
On dry land I have noted that my new board had smaller fins than the flyer 2. Reducing fin size is something I tried on the flyer 2 - reasoning was that i was on an oversize board (flyer is 6’ 6" and I’m quite small at 56kg) so I would do better with smaller fins - the FCS AMs are quite big) - however this didn’t work, yes the flyer was looser but i lost both drive and glide speed. So I was interested to see how the Speedy step up would go with the smaller fins. However the new board has MORE drive than the flyer - well it is Spitzer supercharged!
I had heaps of waves in my evening session and this board is a big success There is always some risk with custom boards, not knowing what to ask the shaper plus shapers interpretation etc however being fellow swaylockians I was able to work closely with Speedy on this one, so its really satisfying to get this result from the planning. Despite my light weight I can duckdive it - I took Speedy’s advice to get my original request for 2 1/2" of thickness shaved down a bit. He got the rails right - despite the chop I never sank a rail. Its also got that compsand feel which I love. I do have the 4wfs so I will try bigger fins and different positions, but i’m completely happy with its present form.
I’ve posted the rocker measurements and Josh has the template so I should mention its application. The scaling of the flyer rocker has proportionally a bit less rocker than a modern shortboard blank and its ended up fairly close to the old Clark hybrid blank. This hybrid rocker was the basis of my silicon valley vac bag boards and it works well for me because of the way I surf and the waves I chose/choose to ride. My former favourite spot was the very fine (but crowded) Middle Peak Steamer lane - this wave is similar in some ways to Bells - it carries a lot of water, has a long sloping base to the wave and is not a tubing type wave. Additionally I am not a power surfer and neither myself nor the wave is suited to massive bottom turns out of the trough, instead I keep the board riding more flat on the surface for speed. So when i say this board has heaps of drive I’m thinking bottom turns somewhere between the bottom and the middle of the wave - the wave allows that without spinning out. However in my experience too low a rocker won’t pump and is sticky off the lip and a board with too much rocker needs to be pumped frantically to maintain speed, so rocker has to be just right
cheers,
Mike
Well there you go Mike…you did’nt tell me you rode it already! It’s like being dumped by TXT.
I was at a wedding on the day. Is’nt that damn typical!
But your observations are way better than a red hot poker up the …
Yeah, I’d pull out a bigger board for Bells or Winki even if its two feet smaller than what I’d consider bordering on big.
My Turn next! Wooooooo…
Josh
I was going to tell you and been mentally composing a ride report, then the hat which I had been wondering about turned up at Herb’s, so I ended up posting here! yes i’ve got a plan for your go - unlike yourself I cant get mid-week surfs, so when we think some good surf is coming I can drop off the board at your place on a sunday on my way back to Melbourne, then I can collect it on the next friday evening on my way back to the coast and get it back for the weekend.
cheers,
Mike
…'scuses, 'scuses…
LOL
Show us ya hat Herb!
