Spray Gun with Resin?

Hi,

Just wondering if i got standard filler or UV resin and used a paint spray gun would it work?

thanks guys.

josh.

to get it to spray you’d have to thin it out with so much styrene that your board would be as brittle as a plate glass window, plus you still have to laminate the glass to the foam, that means Squeegee time. If your talking about spraying a gloss coat, I’ve seen some shops do that, but it’s only for major production, like 20 boards at a time, and it takes a low viscosity, high pressure set up. Way too messy when you clean up the gun, Acetone atomizing through a cup gun is a gnarly thing, Acetone mist all over the place, getting in your hair, eyes, skin…even with a mask. it’s kind of like a Acetone shower, without the soap-on-a-rope Nothing beats a squeegee, and a old paint brush. Low tech.

Catalyst and poly resins are hazardous enough as liquids, can you imagine the protective gear needed to exist in an atmosphere saturated with the stuff? Think for a moment of getting a lung-full of atomized resin, would that be with or without catalyst, sir?

Further, both are flammable, nay EXPLOSIVE, when atomized.

If that aint enough, what happens if the stuff goes off in the gun? Well, simply throw the gun away.

Anyone doing production on this basis better have a damn good reason, protective gear better than God, and a exhaust filtration system absolutely great; or (simple and obvious) operate outside US borders.

Now, chopper gun work as for production fiberglassing is more of a spattering system based on the one time I’ve watched it, rather than atomizing the liquid component. Gel coat spraying I haven’t seen, someone else can chime in.

Thanks God for Swaylocks!

without it i would have stuffed up my board so badly by now.

thanks so much for the replies.
