I’ve gone to a tool store, home hardware and home depot. Nobody has, or nobody knows what I’m talking about when I ask for ‘a rubber squeegie… almost like something you’d spread drywall putty with, except made out of rubber. It’s for spreading resin onto fiberglass cloth.’
Does anyone know what the original use/name of these things are? I don’t know where to find one. Thanks…
lotta places dont have them period (ran into same problem when i was starting) easier just to go to a specialized surfboard making store or order them online. Just make sure you clean the ones you have after your done using em cause they arent super cheap.
i also asked around and people looked at me like i was crazy, ended up using one of those plastic things my first lam then i ordered the real thing. Just make sure you take care of the squeegie so you dont have to keep ordering more
KellerFreek- Though you don’t list a location, in the states you can find these tools in the major home imp.stores (HoDepot, Lowes etc. ) in the adhesives sections of these stores which is generally located by paint, however they are refered to as resin spreaders or spreading tools. They’re generally sold in blisterpacs containing three or four various sizes in each, if you have a $.99 only store near you you can on a hit and miss basis find actual squeegies(the tools used for cleaning windows) while the larger ones have no place in a glassing schedule where one desires maintaining their sanity I’ve more than once stumbled across small conventional squeegies with extra stiff rubber blades that work brilliantly for lam jobs. Before all that try your local hardware store again and ask for resin spreaders instead of sqeegies as that is probabally causing the confusion with the clerks at your local…good luck. Glenn
Thalco is one of the major labels, found online at Fiberglass Hawaii, FoamEZ or SurfSource. Locally,in a large enough city you need to find the boat shop supplier or custom marble countertop/bath guys, they buy from similar distributors and suppliers. Bearing rubber found in heavy truck and industrial supply shops will have a product that you can foil into a decent squeegee too.
Go to WWW.fiberglasssupply.com , click on Product Catalog then select Laminating Tools & Supply. Everything you need is listed here. As a matter of fact, they have everything you need to build your shop including vaccum bagging supplies. The best part is they sell to the public and are considerably cheaper than most supply stores.
