Stanley Multi-Angle Vise for fin foiling

…hello Gene, your sarcasm is ok with me; but I just see that tool and do not see too much enhance in foiling performance

I picked up one of these a while back:

http://www.panavise.com/index.html?pageID=1&page=full&--eqskudatarq=2

I haven't used it that much, but it seems well constructed.I added the optional Bench Clamp Base for portability. It lets you move it around the shop with a few turns of the thumb screw.

Right on reverb, a fancy vise won’t foil the fin for you.  A little sarcasm yes but no malice intended.

Howzit gene,I agree I really like his vise and didn't know this was a contest. I just added mine because it is no big deal and so simple but works.I've done them with the fin blank on a 2X4 and my foot holding it in place in an alley. Aloha,Kokua

That’s some serious street cred there Kokua.

I can remember foiling em after they were glassed on the board. No vise…just a sanding rack. Put the board on its side in the pocket and grind away. Worst itch I ever had was when I ground a fin wearing flip flops. Had to wear shoes for a wedding the next day.

As for vises I like the adjustable multi angle aspect. Enables you to position the fin at a comfortable angle. I can see myself grinding a fin mounted in and an adjustable vise that is mounted to my adjustable shaping stand. Sitting on an adjustable stool with an adjustable fan blowing the dust away and keeping me cool and sweat free. Life can be good if you want.

great thread !

[ I  missed it , the first time around?]

'Cleanlines' , good stuff !    I think the only thing that would top off the setup you just mentioned would be ....

[carrie ?  exorcist ?  which movie was it in ?]

having YOUR head  rotate  360 degrees , a sander in each hand , two [? maybe FOUR ?? ] ...yes , four I think .... of these multi-angle vices in a circle  near each other , and SIX arms [hindu-god style ? ] ...maybe with a twin-forked trunk , for two extra grinder/ sanders for backup , even ?

so , like in the old westerns , you could be "firing two guns" [minimum !]  at once , so to speak

  bang bang

let's have MORE funny fin foiling setup stories , please , to prepare for  'Ruckusman's fin foiling video' ? ....

  cheers !

Look up ‘sculpting vise’ and apply a little ingenuity.

‘The remainder is left as an exercise for the student’

Like a Vee-shaped base on a set of vise jaws, being pulled down into a ring, cylinder or similar.

To paraphrase Ben, show us your sketches of the right vise setup. Critiques to come, but we all learn from that.

Could be fun. He wrote, laughing evilly …

doc…

[..... this,   doc ? ]

you'd like us to reveal our "vices" eh , Doc ?  [you want us to disclose .... "air , what's UP, Doc ?!" ]

....THAT could get  v e r y  S C A R Y !    [....but , fun , nevertheless !]

  Well, you know ...

the years I spent singing 'aid all vice' ,  in the old folks home , I thought it was just a harmless song about some flower in austria [no, not australia , George ...different hemispheres  , like your brain !] ?

who'da thunk it ...a song about fin foiling , instead ?

Well;, that  just goes to show , eh ?

.....evil , subliminal "let's make surfers out of them" forces were at work !  heheh  .....fancy THAT , eh ?  [maybe THAT'S why they don't employ surfers there , any more ?!]

and L ucy [in the] Sky [?with?] Diamonds

and " Puff the Magic Dragon" ??!!

.... boy , the beauty of an innocent , naive brain in those days hey ?!

again , who'da thunk it ?!
