step by step homemade stringer building?

Does anyone know of a thread that has a step-by step how to cut your own stringers(preferably with pictures)? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don’t know of a thread but if you can get the master shaper II dvd, Jim Phillips shows how he cuts stringers for his balsa blanks. He takes like a 1 inch thick plank puts it through his stationary planer to flatten both sides. He then cuts the plank in half on a bandsaw. Takes the two halves and plane the rough side left by the bandsaw. Goes back to the bandsaw and splits the 2 halves in half again. Repeats the steps until he gets I think it was 6 stringers.

Hello tallaloi,

I can’t provide pictures with my description right this moment because I’m at school, but I’ll try at get them for you tonight. Before I start, I made my stringers as pre-rockered stringers, so the method might be slightly different.

1). Make a template of your pre-rockered stringer on a piece of roofing felt.

2). I bought a 8’x6"x1" piece of pine, simply because it was the cheapest piece at Rona.

3). I split the 1" piece of pine lengthwise (on a table saw) so that I had 2 8’x6"x3/8" pieces of wood.

4). Then I planed the wood down to 1/4".

5). I traced the template onto one of my pieces of wood, and then cut it out with a jigsaw.

6). Then I sanded the edges so they were smooth, and glued it between my foam.

Hope that helps.
