Hmmm…no reply on this yet? I thought it was great to see and thanks for posting it.
Yup!
That’s it !
Been many moons ago.

I think it’s pretty cool, too, and wonder if the shack is still standing. Mike
Hey,
Can I have those blanks in the pics ?
LOL.

A quote from the original post:
"Since I took those photos, Mr.Lis passed away, the
property was sold and all has been torn down and hauled to the dump.
The only thing that remains is the ideas that were born there.
"
Whoa…better not do any “name dropping” here, or mention Steve Lis’s name or “talk about anything he may have been involved in in that shack”… you’ll get slammed from all angles by your fellow swaylokians… and then they’ll call you “lame” or a “hack” or a “name dropping kook”… so watch out! Ooooooooh…
Geez,
That means I’m the heir to the fish design…naw …there’s still Steve Brom.
Long live King MagicMan !

I don’t understand this at all.
I don’t understand this at all.
Il Paradosso
Do what you love…
Love what you do.
You’d undestand if you would have read the post I wrote about the diffenderfer smuggle board. I got slammed for “name dropping” and talking about the interesting truth behind a board I acquired from a friend who was “in the know”. I was called “lame,” a “hack,” and a “name dropping kook” among other negative comments.
Oh.
I love the internet.
Just remember this.
They’re insecure…and want you to feel as bad as they do…don’t buy into it for a second.
When I first started out on the surf websites like this one and others,I got slammed all the time.
It didn’t stop me.
What doesn’t kill me…Makes me Stronger !
Keep that in mind.

Howzit herb. keep the peace around here. I nominate you for Sheriff. Hey Magic Man if you are lurking I need a dust chute for skil. (no shit…I really do) Adios RB
The words integrity and respect come to mind. Like you said, the rules are simple.
The stories of drugs smuggling, and avioding the war draft are interesting in context, maybe around a keg of beer. But, not with a bullhorn heard around the world. It was offencive to some of us who knew him, and is hardly a proper memorium. Stories w/o names and places are more interesting, but take creativity, careful thought, and tact. I would have been much more interested in what you had learned from M.D’s templates, and the story behind how he gave them to you. Many of his friends are still alive, yeah, some did time too.
Steve Lis, and his old shack are the topic.Interesting story leave it at that.
I think shapers and glasser have or should have a rule about not publicly bashing their competition
or other people in the business…as it eventually comes around full circle into their face…Common sense
rule for getting along with others!
Howeveer, I do resent that rule being applied to the consumer.
The guy who buys a board from a shaper who may be in the middle of a drug induced downslope, cheating
the guys who are buying boards and even the glassers. It seems if you have been hoodwinked trying
to do business with such a person, but dont really know the back story, there are people here that will
play the ‘cant say nothing bad’ card on you. Its all unequivocally unfair! Business is business and if
someone has played a bad deal on you. Then you have the right to speak up and complain.
Now about Steve Lis, I dont know.
But saying bad things about him, immediately after he has died, would be in bad taste.
Writing and publishing a book about it, with referenced resources, would be called fair game.
Sometimes, its nothing but interesting history that we are all curious about.
Cant really say for sure.
Certainly if someone were relating stories about Jeff Hackman, Michael Peterson, Reno Abellira, Bunker Sprinkles, etc
nobody would complain. Probably because most of those people didnt present themselves as wearing suits and going to church
on Sunday.
So whats the difference??
Maybe the difference is that privacy is respected until the veiled curtain is torn away, if so, I can respect that!
…man,
when SL passed away?
Its rare il post (cos i dont know shit) but good lord not everything has to turn into a pissing match.
This was a nice tread started to show us a little history from where a legend started from, a little more info and details on the man would have been a little more fitting
Whatever. I’m over it. Trying to explain myself is a waste of time on this forum. Am I on the surfer Magazine Forum? Hmmm… I could have sworn I was on the Sways forum. Weird.
…man,
when SL passed away?
I think he means that Li’s father passed away and now the property has been purchased by another party and the historical landmark where Steve shaped his way into the history that we know has now been dismantled and is no longer there for the pondering.
