How much would you guys pay for a brand new steve lis classic fish, shaped by Mr. Lis himself? (I am not selling!!!)

This is sounding like market research for a rate hike!

for $200 I’d try one again

I’m not selling, just curious

Howzit YerbaBuena, Was talking to steve last week at the market and I asked him if he minded me telling the guys on Swaylocks to look in the Kauai phone book and calling him about boards, no problema he said. But I don’t think he needs any body to sell his boards for him. Aloha,Kokua

Wow, like I just said, I’m not selling one of his boards, I am interested in buying one of his and I was wondering how much you guys think one of his new boards would be worth?

Im guessing $600 and over

YerbaBuena, I was kidding about selling his boards but I can call him and get a price quote. Steve and I are good friends and he won’t mind. I might have to glass some boards for him to get info since he bugs me to glass some for him and you know the saying “what goes around comes around” and I know he would love to get me in debt to him. You might have to come to the tsunami fund gettogether to pick it up. The other possibility is to call him and find out when he and Betsy are going to visit SD the next time and pre-order a board so he can shape it over there.Aloha,Kokua

quite a bit more than $600

Yeah Kokua!! Steve made a board for me in SD last summer and it’s an all time board!!! Iam on the list for one this summer already .Steve and Betsy are super cool to deal with also.

Howzit dubstar. I think that might be a little to high, but then again I've never asked him what he charges for a shape. The glass job wouldn't cost any more except for dealing with 5 fins which all his glassers hate to do.Aloha,Kokua

Okay Yerba,

I give up how much you selling em’ for?

haha, one million dollars, i dont have one though, so send me a check and you can imagine surfing on the twin fin I sold you.

Hey Kokua, i miss something did you said “Steve Lis fish” and “dealing with 5 fins” in the same post???

Does Steve shape any 5 fin fishes?

Just curious.

Thanks.

hi Coque !

I saw some in the ‘second glance’ article in ‘Surfer’.

Not the traditional outline so much…more like a wide swallow tail thruster outline, but with 5 fins.

ben

hey kokua

I’m ordering a traditional Lis twin keel fish w/ volan etc and I got the impression the price would be way up there, didn’t really ask what it would cost, however, maybe they are cheaper in the islands

Howzit Coque, I know Steve has used 5 fins on his own boards and he told me how the guys at the glassing factory always leave his boards on the side til they have nothing to do so that’s when they sand the boards. I can’t say if he puts 5 on other peoples boards except for a few longboards he shaped for the boys here. Aloha,Kokua

Howzit dubstar, One thing is that in S.D. Steve is highly in demand for his shapes where as on Kauai he's the new guy on the block and I don't think there's much call for his fish's. He shapes more long boards over here and has a following for them.Aloha,Kokua

Thanks Kokua, i’m curious to see what kind of fin configuration he uses.

Must be great having close to your door a guy who “invented” a shape that’s still a pleasure to ride 30 years after.
