sticky gloss coat!

put on a gloss coat over some graphics i did on the hotcoat i sealed the graphics down with lacquer, sent it off with around 30cc as the temp had dropped a few degrees to 65.

but it has only gone off in places some are tacky some are wet.

anyway to fix it?

thanks

first thing you’ve gotta do is figure out what went wrong. was the catalyst not mixed throughly? were you glassing it in a room with a lot of airflow that may have blown off portions of the gloss coat?

i’m not really sure of a way to remove the gloss resin that’s currently on it without ruining your artwork. why not just do another gloss coat – mixed properly and thoroughly, and put on in a room with no fans, A/C vents, etc. blowing on it – and see how it goes. good luck.

Howzit pauluk, If you did the gloss with in the last 24 hrs try letting it sit for another day to see if it hardens. Glossing resin can be tricky stuff and the catalyst needs to be mixed in really good.Aloha, Kokua

the funny thing is that i did one the other day and it went off in 10 mins with less catalyst and i only mixed it for about a 1 min

this one i did at 7 pm yesterday 18th with more cat and mixed for at least 2 mins the only difference i see is that i put in less wax

it is still tacky this morning though more has dried is it worth adding a bit more heat to the room??

if it doesnt fully go off whats the best thing to do?

thanks

pauluk, 30cc’s in what quantity of resin?

Did you put the lacquer over the graphics, if so what type of lacquer?

       platty.

around about 2 cups of resin enough to cover the deck

the graphics were covered with a wood floor gloss lacquer usually works fine!

now there are only a few small sticky patches! would wiping them with acetone dry them off?

my glassing room sits at between 65-70 all the time was looking thru the archives and found a cleanlines post stating that at 70oC he would always shoot them off at 35ccs ?

thanks
