Stoked: #01 shaped

Hi Folks

i’ve just shaped my first board and i am stoked with the outcome. Thanks to all the posts and help i have had from the swaylock community it’s gone very well so far and i even used an electric planer

Next to glass it and i have yet to foil the ply keel fins…

I have attached some terrible photo’s of it…it looks like my camera is not long for this world.

6’2"x17x22x17 Fish (of course  )…

Nice one Wal. Im just bout done with my first (also a fish:)):). Just got to get the fins on. Your shape looks really nice. How did you find the electric planer? Im about to start my second board (8 foot fun gun) with a planer - any tips on how to get started? did you use the planer to cut and true your outline? How did the rail bands go?

Anyway - sorry about the barrage of questions!

well done on a nice shape.

Looks great wal. You can even see it’s ‘aura.’ Mike

Thnaks guys…just jope i don’t stuff up the glassing.

AJ: I only skimmed the top and bottom with the electric plane. Tbh i was sacred of using it and had true’d the shape using a handsaw and surform, it was only in desperation (i.e. didn;t have a hand plane and the surfaces on the top and bottom were really too tough to use the surform) that i conceded to use an electric plane.

I can’t say my planing was top class and i did get some ridges but overall it was easy, fast and not as sacry as i had thought. All the ridges surform’d and sanded out no bother.

I started doing the rails with it but it wasn’t taking a lot off so did those with the surform…seemed much quicker for some reason, think it was the whole angle thing.

The planer was just a regular Bosch one, nothing special or tweaked in ay way. I will definitely use it again for future boards.
