Yah, that’s what I mean. I’ve done them carrying the thickness too far back and they worked well anyway. I think I posted the fins on my 5-10 somewhere. 9x5’s. The board works great. Double foiled. Carried the thickness too far back on those, too, but I was getting better. Mike
Ohk guys. I have ordered the resin etc and hopefully will get it really soon. I am wanting to finish the board before a trip im doing up north for a while from new years onwards. I have already designed the spray im going to do onto the blank and glass over it. Hopefully will turn out well or it’ll kill the board :l
One question though, do you have tp clear coat paint before glassing over. I wouldnt think so but just asking.
Nice work man. But I was gonna say the same thing - have the trailing edges thin out more gradually. I would make that first layer of light plywood maybe a little more than half the length it is now, front to back, then equally space the next couple of layers.
And it’s not necessary to clearcoat before glassing.
so i have almost finished the board. Hot coated both sides now. only thing is… i forgot to drill leash plug hole and put it in before hotcoating top. so do you rekon i should drill through the glass and then do it as normal or another way.
I’d love to not have a leash plug but then i’d have no leash and i dont think i want that as im gonna try this in all manners of size
I usually put my leash cups in after I’ve ridden the board a couple of times(fishes and other small wave boards). No problem putting it in after the hot coat. I sand it down real well and laminate a circle of fiberglass over the plug. After taping in off, of course. Leash loops do look really cool as Soulstice mentioned and they are strong in my experience. Some of my boards don’t have a leash attachment. I don’t ride them at board eating spots or big crowds. If I think I need a chord I grab another board. Can’t see your fish yet cuz this machine is acting like a Dick. Your Stokkkkkkkkkked! Mike
Howzit cheater 5, If it’s just a regular leash plug you put it in after the hot coat before sanding any ways so you are on the right track. Aloha,Kokua
“leash cups” [legrope plugs ] = 5 seconds with a router or hole saw .
resin loops = ages fartarsing around and getting the resin and rovings crap all over you . And if it cracks , you’re screwed …start the whole process again ?? …forget it ! Why make things complicated for yourself ?
Keep it simple …less stress , time spent , and hassle that way !
yea thats how i figured it. I got my dad to help me sand the top coat today. its getting reeeaal smooth aye. Cant wait to have it all sanded and ready for surf
