stolen van/boards

Be aware of the crime rate rising, probably due to the economic environment we are in. A good friend had his VW Van stolen from right in front of his house on Foothill Road , Ventura, 2 weeks ago (Saturday) Unfortunately, he had 4 longboards and multiple wetsuits in it at the time. Be aware of your surroundings and key placement while surfing in Ventura…lots of characters around.

Midpoint Mafia

heard about that-bummer. foothill isn’t exactly an out of the way road, so anyone cruising by could have spotted the boards in the van and acted/planned their evil deed. karma will get them…(hopefully the law too)

It really is a bummer. This happened not far from our house and because of that, we’ve been exceptionally vigilant about using a club and parking our Westy under our motion detector next to the house.

Here’s the details.

The following was posted on CraigsList.org by our friend John German.

If anybody has any information, please contact John:

*My Burgandy Vanagon was stolen from in front of my house on Foothill

in Ventura sometime between 10 pm Firday night and 6 am Saturday

morning when I went out to go surfing. Everything I own that has to do

with surfing was in it, 4 long boards, 2 Huerta -McNair Nomads’, Hobie

Fushion and Campbell Bros Bonzer, 2 Oneil wetsuits, red tote box with

fins, leashes, tools, Binoculars. board bags, my trucks, my towels,

everything, if you have any info on my stuff, call me, the license

plate on the vanagon is 5LSV186, its a burgandy 89’ Vanagon, black bra

on front, surfracks on top, and my lifetime of surf stuff, This is

really bad ju-ju for someone, call me with any info, 805-455-1661 or

805-804-6211, thanks.

That is a bummer. Possible the van has already been chopped up or painted. If I’d lost all those boards I’d be scouring craigslist from OC to SLO…they sound quite recognizeable. That’s a heartbreaker.

I have to say that virtually everything that I’ve ever had stolen from me in my entire life has been surf-related. Racks in Ventura, wetsuits in Baja and Camarillo, skateboard in Ventura (it isn’t exactly a hotbed of crime around here - I just have lived here mostly). Never lost a thing in Malibu or Hawaii…yet. All of those losses came before a certain year (long ago)…after the second van break-in I never left any surf equipment in the vehicle. You can’t hide the boards, and if they see boards they can usually rightly assume you have other equipment in there, and all the rest of it is much easier to carry and much more generic. Never had a car anybody would steal…

I’m not sure this kind of action has to do with the abysmal economy…more like it has to do with thieving rat bastards. Hope it works out.

i hate to say it, but leaving such items , in a van(which i assume has some large windows to peer in) on a busy thuroughfare, is not exactly wise…again, it’s a bummer and i hope those responsible are caught and dealt with, but it could also, perhaps, be a lesson learned…

I can empathise after having my car and boards stolen. I got just about everything back. Possibly just luck but I also made a lot of effort to contact people I know and publicise what happened. I have no idea whether that made a difference.

I looked into one of those gps devices that can be located on your car so that if it was stolen it could be tracked, however, they were a bit too expensive. They may be cheaper os.

Taking less stuff in your car is probably wise, but you do get lulled into a false sense of security and take that extra board, leave it in the car etc.

Hope your mate gets some of his stuff back,

Bob
