Stomp Pad Repair

I fix boards out of my garage. About 2 repairs a month. Most of the surfboards that I work on have a Stomp Pad. Most of the time I can work around the pad. Sometimes the pad needs to be removed or repaired.

I’m looking for a low cost but strong glue for Stomp pads. I have a hot glue gun but the glue seems to be too thick.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Ray

I go through so many test boards that it gets expensive to keep re-padding with new ones.

I peel them off, clean the pad and the board really well, acetone on the contact surfaces.

Then I use 3M 77 Spray Adhesive on the pad side only. Never any problems. I’ve had one

pad on as many as four boards…

…you could adapt this to doing repair. Good Luck.

3M 77 Spray Adhesive.

I’ll get some ,Thanks.

there is this all purpose adhesive called GOO or something, but i think it can be found at any surf shop. this stuff sticks and you can use it on anything. ive used it on my stomp pad when a portion was ripped off and has worked very well in holding it on. hit me back up if you want the real name of it.

i’d go with the 3M marine adhesive…that stuff sticks like you wouldn’t believe.

Howzit stinray, If the deck pad is in the way I tell the owner to remove it himself or that it's in the way and it might not survive the repair. Also tell them to remove leashes and fins if they are removable and don't forget to take the board bag with them too. One of the best adhesives I've found is called Clearco and Fiberglass hI sells it.Aloha,Kokua

Thank you Plus One ,Breakwater,Soulstice ,and Kokua.

Some guys don’t care what you have do do as long as they get back in the water fast…

Others have me do “what ever it takes” to not remove the pad ,I’ve run cloth up to the pad at a customers request so we did not have to remove the pad…

This week I have a good customer who doesn’t really care about the stomp pad that’s coming off but I know he will be stoked if I fix it.

As long as were talking about having people remove things like fins and leashes…What about wax?! Is there an industry standard charge for wax removal? I normally put paper over the wax so it does not get on my racks.

Thanks again , Have a great week end.

I take the pads off using a hairdryer and a plastic putty knife. Clean off the goo on the pad and board with paint thinner and the putty knife. Clean off the thinner residue with household cleaner then a bit of acetone on rag. Glue it back down with regular contact cement (apply to both surfaces like the can says). Charge $5 for this. Don’t do a poor repair because the pad is in the way, it will just come back and you’ll do it again for free.

I charge $5-10 for cleaning off wax. Don’t let wax/sand get on your storage or work racks or it will wreck your next polish job. Have them remove leashes and fins and don’t be responsible for stickers or artwork. Boards left for more than 30 days are yours (or else charge a storage fee). Make a sign so they see it in writing.

Ray… Super 77 is the ticket for resticky. no problemo! the only thing is if you have to ever remove it again it will not come up in one piece…

Ray use that pricing guide I gave you from RED SURF… Richard was very fair on his prices. I believe he charged for wax removal only if the area being repaired had wax in the way.

Yeah- 3M super 77 has my vote too… I love that stuff! -Carl
