Storing boards in garage--mid-atlantic

Is there any harm in storing my quiver in my garage? I live in the mid-atlantic area. Thanks!

I am a NJ resident and cannot foresee any problems. I store my board in my garage year round with no apparent side effects (this includes some high quality boards). I would be more concerned about the heat in the summer than the freeze we are experiencing now. Invest in some padded board bags. they do not have to be the super padded travel bags but more of the reflective gray day-bags with about 3/8" foam you can you find them for 50-60+ dollars at most shops. The bag will insulate the board form extreme heat and cold as well as protect if form any nicks and dings that could occur from activity in a garage.

Delawarean here…I too store my boards in an unheated shed. For me there are two unescapable facts - 1) after you surf your board is wet and water gets into all of the hairline fractures and stays there. 2) Freeze/thaw/freeze/thaw is hard on everything else so I’d bet it is on surfboards as well. If I could keep 'em inside I would but I can’t.

I live in NJ and have been storing my boards in a garage for many years. Never had a problem. No bags no nothing.

The thing about good insulating materials are they help keep cold things cold and hot things hot. A thermos will keep hot liquid hot, and cold liquids cold… for a while. Eventually the liquids will equilibrate with the temperature of the outside environment. After a few hours in a cold garage, boards in a boardbag will be as cold as the rest of the garage. They should take a little longer to cool off, but will still equilibrate with the rest of the room. Likewise, after a few hours in a hot garage, your boards will be as hot as the rest of the garage. They should take a little longer to heat up, but will still equilibrate with the rest of the room.
